Panic in Maitama as Explosion Causes Alarm

The calm streets of Maitama, Abuja, were rocked by a sudden explosion on Wednesday, leaving residents in a state of distress. The blast, which reverberated across neighboring areas such as Wuse II and Banex, immediately sparked concerns about a potential bomb attack, coming just a week after the tragic Ibadan explosion that claimed five lives.

Muhammadine, an eyewitness in Maitama, recounted the incident to Chronicle NG, explaining that the explosion originated from a burning dump site. "A truck collecting BPE trash triggered the explosion while emptying the second trash can," he stated. "I was only four meters away when it occurred, and two men were injured and rushed to the hospital. The force of the explosion even shattered my windscreen."

Further investigations revealed that the explosion was not caused by a bomb but rather by the possible presence of empty gas cylinders within the refuse, dispelling initial fears of a deliberate attack.
