Tastes Like Shakkar: A Novel (If Shakespeare Were an Auntie Book 2) by Nisha Sharma (Author)
Tastes Like Shakkar is a fantastic antagonists to lovers romance that I couldn’t put down. Nisha Sharma creates strong yet likable Desi characters who face relatable struggles on their way to their HEA.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Benjamin aka Bunty and Bobbi have antagonized each other for a while. But when their besties Kareena and Prem get engaged, the pair asks the chef and wedding planner to join forces to make their celebration special. Once they work out their initial misunderstanding, the attraction between them sizzles as they navigate their new dynamic. As they face wedding disasters, family pressures, and different career opportunities, can they make their relationship work?
This story is not just forced proximity, but features two main characters who actually seem like they would be in a relationship together if given the chance. Bunty and Bobbi are both strong characters. Neither one is inclined to compromise when it comes to their careers, even when their nearest and dearest say they should focus more on their personal lives. I especially liked that Bunty never expects Bobbi to compromise on her career, but respects and defends all the effort she put into it.
The other highlights of this book are their tight knit friend group and the ubiquitous aunties. After meeting Benjamin, Bobbi, Veera and Deepak in Kareena and Prem’s book, it’s easy to see why these friends will do anything for each other. And when the aunties are pulled in to help discover why wedding plans keep going sideways, they show off their loving, humorous and devious sides.
Tastes Like Shakkar is a fantastic antagonists to lovers, forced proximity romance. Bobbi and Bunty are amazing characters that I want to spend more time with. Their obvious attraction, along with their intellectual connection, makes them a wonderfully balanced couple.
