Bradford (1818–1912) was an American writer, historian and one of the first American women writers to specialize in childrens literature, predating better-known writers such as Louisa May Alcott. Bradford was also a very close friend of Tubman and a contemporary of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Toms Cabin.
