Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that focuses on building machines that exhibit intelligent behavior. AI is considered to be a natural evolution of machine learning. In particular, it involves the study of making a computer do what a human does. AI was first introduced into computers around the 1950’s. Today, artificial intelligence is being implemented in many different industries. AI comes in various forms such as pattern recognition, speech recognition, machine translation, and robotics among others.

There are three types of AI-Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). ANI refers to narrow AI such as programs that perform specific tasks and work well in specific environments. AGI refers to general AI, which would have the capability to solve any problem in any field of knowledge. ASI would be a true superintelligence, capable of doing anything the human brain can think. While AGI may seem like it's a long ways away, we're already seeing some incredible advancements in the field today. Google DeepMind created AlphaGo Zero, and Google Brain developed AlphaGo using deep reinforcement learning.

Are there any disadvantages of AI?

Yes, The biggest disadvantage of AI is that while they can learn at a rate unimaginable for humans, they cannot think creatively. We want our robots to be able to think for themselves, not just follow instructions. Another downside is that, even if they were programmed to think creatively, they wouldn't necessarily know how best to use their newfound abilities. Because of these limitations, we need to make sure that we give them clear directions before unleashing them onto the world. A third issue is that while there are many advantages to having machines take over jobs such as manufacturing, mining, and farming, we still need people to understand the environment that machines operate in and to ensure that the safety of those people. AI doesn't always behave predictably and, therefore, we need to train it appropriately to avoid accidents and disasters. Finally, since AI is becoming increasingly widespread, there are concerns about the amount of power and computing necessary to run an AI system. This could lead to a shortage of electricity and a possible increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
