Kim Jong Un's Brother Threatens Military Attack If North Korea Is Provoked

Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, warned that her country would launch an immediate military attack in response to any provocation that arose.

The warning came when Pyongyang again fired dozens of artillery shells near the maritime border with South Korea (South Korea) on Sunday (7/1) local time -- the third shot in three consecutive days.

As reported by Reuters and the Associated Press, Monday (8/1/2024), South Korea's Joint Military Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea fired more than 90 artillery shells near the western maritime border, which is a dispute between the two countries, on Sunday (7/ 1) afternoon local time.

The North Korean military in a statement later confirmed that it was using coastal artillery systems to conduct live-fire drills. It was also stated that the drill was part of the military training schedule and the direction of the fire did not pose any threat to South Korea.

"I have made it clear once again that the security reasons for luring the Korean People's Army (KPA -- the official name of the North Korean military) have been missed," said Kim Yo Jong, who is also one of the most powerful members of Kim Jong Un's regime, in a statement released news agency Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"As has been declared, the KPA will launch a military attack if the enemy carries out the slightest provocation," he stressed.

The warning came after North Korea reportedly fired more than 60 artillery shells near the South Korean border island on Saturday (6/1) afternoon. Kim Yo Jong denied that there was artillery fire by North Korea at the weekend.

It was claimed by Kim Yo Jong, in her statement, that Pyongyang only detonated explosive powder that simulated the sound of artillery fire in its coastal areas, aimed at testing the South Korean military's detection capabilities.
