   なぜなら、自分が見た兄弟を愛さない者は、自分が見ていない神を愛することはできないからである。

  　私が英語の資格試験や京大二次試験で高得点がとれるのは、英語力だけではなく雑学が豊富だから。受験指導をしながら難関大の過去問指導を続けていると、自然と「哲学」「科学」「医療」「情報」などの知識が増える。すると、長文問題を読み始めると

「あぁ、あの話か」

　と、読む前に内容の推測ができたりする。

　クリスチャンであることも英語の論理を追うのに役立っている。語学を学ぶことは、英語圏の文化を理解することと同じ作業であって両者を切り離すことは困難だ。

　上記の文章を読んで何か感じるだろうか？私は遺産相続でもめて姉二人と音信不通になってしまった。愛するどころの話ではなく、断絶だ。バツイチだから、もと奥さんとも関係が切れた。

　家族であっても愛することは簡単なことではない。ましてや、他人の隣人など愛せるわけがない。隣人トラブルも一通り経験済みだ。クリスチャンの私に香典やら神社の協力費やらを求めてくる隣人とは仲良くできるはずがない。

　だから、私はクリスチャンとして落第生だと感じる。

　I am able to get high scores in English qualification exams and Kyoto University's second exam not only because of my English ability but also because of my abundance of miscellaneous knowledge. As I continue to teach past exam questions from difficult universities while providing guidance for entrance examinations, I naturally increase my knowledge of "philosophy," "science," "medicine," "information," and so on. Then, when I start reading long-answer questions, I think

"Oh, that story?

　I can guess the content of the question before I read it.

　Being a Christian also helps me to follow the logic of English. Learning a language is the same as understanding the culture of an English-speaking country, and it is difficult to separate the two.

　What do you feel when you read the above sentence? I lost touch with my two sisters because of an inheritance dispute. It's not about love, it's about disconnection. I'm divorced, so I've also lost touch with my ex-wife.

　It is not easy to love even family members. And it is impossible to love a neighbor who is a stranger. I have experienced all kinds of neighbor troubles. There is no way I can get along with a neighbor who asks me, a Christian, for incense money or money to help pay for a shrine.

　So I feel I am flunking out as a Christian.
