THE UNFAITHFUL CHICKEN
The Christmas celebration was at hand, there lived a chicken that was well prepared by the owner to be killed for the celebration. It was well fed so it could be healthy and fattened. The chicken, aware of the Master's plan began to improvise on the possible remedy to avert death. It couldn't fly up to the sky because it had no wings so it met with the and said "my very good friend eagle. I need a favour from you. As you know the Christmas is fast approaching and my master has prepared me long enough for the occasion. He had fed me more than before so I can get fattened before the celebration day. I don't want to die please save my life and lend me your wings so I could fly up to the sky and never returned till the Christmas is over." The eagle has compassion on the chicken and agreed to lend the chicken it's wings.
"Will give you my wings but on one condition" he said.
"What could that be?" asked the chicken.
"When you returned back we would both share the food served to you by your master". The chicken reluctantly agreed to eagle's condition. "My life is more precious to me than the food" said the chicken. With the agreement sealed, the eagle borrowed it wings to the chicken and it immediately flew up to the sky and never returned till the Christmas was over.
It was the 20th day of January and the chicken returned back from it's trip. It immediately went to the eagle and asked "my friend eagle, what day are we now?" "The 20th day of January" replied the eagle. The chicken became happy "now my master must have found another alternative option for the Christmas" it said. The eagle reminded the chicken of their agreement but it assured the eagle "I will definitely fulfil my part of the agreement from tomorrow" said the chicken. The chicken returned the wings to the eagle and both went their separate ways. Days turned to weeks, weeks to month but yet the chicken was unwilling to fulfil it's promise. This left the eagle angry and never wanted to set an eye on the chicken again.
Meanwhile, several months later, another Christmas was fast approaching. And the chicken was troubled looking distressed. It knows it couldn't walk up to the eagle again because of its dubious act against the eagle "who will save me this time" he lamented. And then he remembered the parrot.
Very early text next morning, it took off to meet the parrot and said "my very good friend parrot.my master is planning to kill me for the Christmas celebration and I don't want to die please lend me your wings so I could fly up to the sky and never returned till the Christmas is over". The parot also took pity on the cunning chicken and agreed to borrow it wings to the chicken but with the same condition attached. The chicken again agreed to the parrot proposal. "I promise when I come back we would equally share any food giving to me by my master" it said. After the agreement, the chicken collected the wings and flew up to the sky and never returned till the celebration was over.
The dubious chicken, unwilling to fulfill it's promise to the parrot decided to stay longer than the previous trip.
On the 10th day of August the chicken returned without any remorse towards the parrot. "My friend parrot what day are we now" it asked. "The 10th day of August" replied the parrot. And again the chicken was filled with joy. "My master must have seen another alternative" it said. The parrot collected it wings and reminded the chicken of their agreement. "Don't worry my friend I will fulfill my part of the agreement tommorow" it assured and they both went their separate ways. Once again days turned to weeks, and weeks to month but the chicken was no where to be found. This left the parrot angry and detest the chicken for that. The parrot been a talkative, did not kept quiet but went on telling others about the unfaithful chicken and the all became furious with the cunning chicken.
It's a week to another Christmas the chicken was left panicking. It kept pondering on what to do this time neither the eagle no the parrot was an option. After days of fruitful deliberation it resort to the dove for help.
The next morning, it immediately ran to the dove pleading for assistance. "My good friend dove" it said. "You alone can save my life now. My master is planning to kill me for the Christmas celebration. Please lend me your wings so I could fly to the sky and never returned till the celebration was over." The dove hearkened to the plea of the chicken and borrowed it wings to the chicken with the same conditions attached. Once again the chicken agreed to it's proposal and flew up to the sky and never returned till the celebration was over. The chicken remained there even longer than the two previous visit because of its unwillingness to fulfill it's promise to the dove.
It was the 24th day of December. The Christmas was already in the air, the chicken appeared. Unaware of the date, it went to the dove and asked "my friend dove what day are we now?" The angry dove sees it as an opportunity to revenge on the unfaithful chicken. "Today is the 15day of October" he lied. The chicken was filled with happiness once again "my master must have killed someone else" it said. The dove reminded the chicken of their agreement but it promised to fulfill it once again. It returned the wings to the dove and went home jubilating. The dove starred at the chicken in pity and went it's way.
On sighting the chicken from a distance the owner was filled with gladness. "Oh my lost chicken is back again" he chorus in anxiety. He beckoned on its children to get hold of the chicken and slaughter it for the Christmas celebration and that ends the life of the unfaithful chicken.
