  私は河合塾学園や駿台の講師募集に応募して採用試験に合格してきた。しかし、その点数結果を見て面接官はよく言った。

「英作文はすばらしいのですが、客観テストは幾つかミスがありました」

　私はアメリカの中学校で勤務していたのだが、受験参考書に書いてある表現を授業で使ったら

「なんで若いのにジジイのような英語で話すの？」

　と言われた。

　何が言いたいのかというと、多くの受験生が信頼している大規模予備校の講師の方たちも何も分かっていない。私は京大二次で８割正解だけではなく、英検１級、通訳ガイドの国家試験にも合格した。ネイティブの友人に

「おまえほど英語の上手な日本人に会ったことがない」

　と言われた（お世辞がかなりあると思うけどね）。

　日常生活で使わない難解な（死語のような）表現や単語を知っていると高得点が取れると勘違いして勉強していると落ちます。

   I have applied for and passed the employment examinations for the teaching positions at Kawaijuku Gakuen and Sundai. However, when the interviewers looked at my score results, they often said, "Your English composition is excellent, but you made some mistakes in the objective test.

Your English composition is excellent, but you made several mistakes on the objective test."

　I worked at a junior high school in the U.S., and when I used expressions from an exam reference book in class, the teacher would say to me, 

　 "Why are you speaking English like an old man when you are so young?


　What I am trying to say is that the lecturers at the large prep schools that many students trust do not understand anything. I not only got 80% correct in the second round of Kyoto University, but also passed the Eiken Level 1 and the national exam for interpreter guide. My native English-speaking friend said

I have never met a Japanese who speaks English as well as you do.

　(I'm sure there is a lot of flattery in that).

　If you study under the misconception that you can get a high score if you know difficult (like a dead language) expressions and words that you don't use in daily life, you will fail.
