Many people have attempted to explain the reason for the shapes of western numerals but none have succeeded in acquiring wide spread acceptance of their ideas. I am yet one more aspirant attempting to do the same. ...Number values aside, what if numerals themselves are something more than arbitrary squiggles? What if they are deliberate cryptograms? Cryptograms for what you ask. Crypts for senses and urges. If a sentient being is anything, it's a ball of receptivities continuously scanning the environment, gathering and estimating value. To what end? To assuage urges, avoid danger and delight the senses. Come to think of it, senses live in crypts inside the body. Would it be wrong to say, senses are the original value appreciators?
