Title: Good, but sometimes technical read

Review: Author did a good job of detailing the progression of genetic editing science, mostly in an entertaining fashion. There were some twists with the authors personnel involvement in the CRISPER babies. At times he delved a little deeper into gene editing detail than I care for, but his personality and writing style still carried the day.

Review: The author lays out a nice history of gene editing that lead up to the current generation of editing with CRISPR. while I began reading to learn about CRISPR, I ended up more fascinated with the all the research around gene editing and gene therapy that has nothing to do with CRISPR.

I was not enamored with the style of writing, as it shifted between the narrative and the pedantic in place. If you can push through those places where the author is telling you about the trip to the gym or dinner, it is really informative.

If you are interested in learning more about what can be done with gene editing and what makes gene editing challenging, this is a great primer.

Review: My only problem with the book is the lack of both an index, or even a glossary, and a compilation of references. The lack of an index I found particularly unfortunate since the author introduces a host of acronyms and concepts, obviously familiar to the expert but not necessarily familiar to the general reader. It would have been useful to have an index to consult upon subsequent appearances of this technical jargon, so as to be able to easily go back to the first appearance and explanation of said jargon in order to refresh one's comprehension.

Review: After reading The Code Breaker, I needed to read a bit more, especially on the CRISPR system, so I bought The Crispr Generation by Kiran Musunuru and, once again, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Having absolutely no background on this particular subject, I found the book very well written and was able to understand everything he wrote. Very very good book and so informative. What a fascinating subject. True, knowing how man can manipulate these things, we may be very sorry in the future but I think what I enjoyed the most was the application of gene-editing in humans in order to "DO GOOD ONLY" - of course!! Imagine being able to cut out some or all of mutated genes that follow generations of people who are born and suffer all their lives. Wow! If only "man" could always be dependent upon to be on the right side of GOOD. Then I can't help but think about Hitler..... Anyway, tks to the author for writing this book. I high recommend it. A Really good read...

Title: What is CRISPR?

Review: This book very effectively answered the question of what is CRISPR. It did so in a very readable format. The author did, in many instances include an error I find grating . That is using the expression HIV virus. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) makes the addition of virus redundant. It is minor, I agree, it just is an irritant like " irregardless". Otherwise, I highly recommend this book for being extremely informative as well as understandable for a lay person.

Review: Although I hold a doctorate in molecular biology and am quite conversant in the topic of CRISPR, I found the book to be a real page turner. It was so well written that even lay people without extensive background and experience in the field will find the book exceptionally informative. I strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to learn more about the science and ethics of gene editing of embryos.
