Title: A Mixed Bag With Some Spine Issues

Review: I just got this yesterday from Amazon, and I can tell already that the book's spine is...not great. And given the book's size and weight, I can't really say with any certainty that it was a packing issue.
As for the book itself...again, a mixed bag. Quite a bit of the artwork is stuff I've seen before, either published in other books or posted online for all the world to see; there IS some stuff here that seems new, though. Overall, I'd say if you're a hardcore TF fan who's been collecting art-oriented books, this probably isn't going to be all that exciting an addition to your collection, but if you're a relative noob to the brand it might be more up your alley.
The book's content is broken into five sections: Packaging, Comics, Animation, Video Games, and of course Movies:
- The Packaging chapter is probably the nicest, as it gives a substantial amount of space to the toy lines beyond G1 (G1's packaging art having already been well covered in the gorgeous Legacy hardcover); there's even a couple pages of Hasbro toy design sheets, which honestly would have been nicer to see more of, since Transformers first and foremost is a toy brand.
- Without actually saying as much, the Comics section seems to be evenly divided into two portions: Everything Before IDW, and IDW. The Everything Before IDW portion is dominated by Marvel's G1 and G2 books (as well as IDW's postscript to the Marvel G1 book, ReG1), with only a few pages devoted to Dreamwave. Again, if you already own the comics, either in their original or TPB forms, this chapter's likely to be redundant, as there isn't much in the way of unfinished/unreleased art or promo pieces here (though weirdly, there is artwork from the Covenant of Primus book included in this section).
- Animation, like Packaging, covers a wider berth than just G1, though again, a substantial bit of what's here has already been seen either online or in other books like IDW's Ark compendiums and Allspark Almanacs, as well as the Art Of Transformers Prime hardcover. Still, there are a few gems here (even Rescue Bots manages to rate a couple pages). This section rather oddly concludes with a few pages highlighting various brand crossovers...in the comics.
- Perhaps unsurprisingly, Video Games belongs largely to the two High Moon games (mostly Fall Of Cybertron) and everything since (Earth Wars, Devastation, Forged To Fight, Legends, etc.). Again, a lot of this I've seen elsewhere, but if you're a new fan, here ya go. And this chapter as well has a rather misplaced addendum, this time Miscellania, which deals primarily with various pieces of promotional or tie-in artwork for other areas of the brand.
- Movies, of course, goes back and forth between concept art and renders from the various live-action films. Again, barring a few largely-unseen gems here and there, a lot of this has already been posted online.
Speaking of the Movies, there's something else I should mention that...well, I wouldn't personally call it a nitpick, but I find it a rather unintentionally-amusing aspect of this book. Each chapter is prefaced with about two pages of text, which essentially is geared to give you the following impression: "Here's a brief summary of the first twenty years of the portion of the Transformers brand that this chapter deals with, AND THEN THE MOVIES HAPPENED AND WERE THE BESTEST THING EVAH! Oh, and some other stuff happened after that." OK, admittedly, the book's bias toward the Movies in spite of most of its actual visual content is rather more subtle than that at first, but it becomes particularly amusing once you actually get to the Movies chapter of the book, whereupon we're told explicitly that trying to replicate the classic appearance of the Transformers in live-action would look phony and fake and all sorts of wrong...and yet whoever put the images for this book together neglected to include any screen-captures or character renders from the 'Cybertron Falls' prologue of "Bumblebee" (the closest thing we get is some tie-in kids'-book artwork of 'Bee fighting Blitzwing). In fact, "Bumblebee" doesn't even get MENTIONED in the Movies chapter text at all, despite same chapter featuring a number or renders of 'Bee from that movie specifically, as well as a screen-cap of Shatter and Dropkick. Granted, since this book was released less than a year after the release of "Bumblebee" it's entirely possible the book's composition was already set at that point (indeed, the whole prologue of the movie set on Cybertron was a last-minute addition to the film, so that probably weighed in too), but even so, the timing of this makes the text's emphasis on how the Movies became the main guiding light of the Transformers brand at large Now And Forevermore pretty hilarious considering all the backstroking toward G1 the brand in general has been performing lately. Again, though, that isn't really a complaint so much as it is something I just think is pretty funny.
Overall, though, this book is one of those "your mileage may vary" things, depending on how much of a Transformers fan you are. And again, if you do decide to plunk down the cash for this thing, check the spine when you get it.

Review: This book is amazing. My son who I believe is the biggest Transformers fan ever especially for a 7 year old. I purchased this book for his birthday and he absolutely lives this book. He knows every single one of the Transformers in the pictures and what generation they came from or what movie and show. They knowledge he has blows my mind. But the pictures are really good and vibrant. The book itself came in great shape. No issues there. We are well pleased

Review: It contains a vast number of images from each Transformers series and video game. It is really an astonishing visual travel and a true delight -and not only for hardcore fans. The effort put in this book is clearly discernible in every page and so it the attention to the detail. A true must have!

Review: My kids are obsessed with transformers from all the new marky mark films to the original tv series. They have a lot of the toys as well as the costumes. This book is really cool because it has all the transformers old and new. Cool images. I used to like the show and enjoyed the movies as an adult. Cool stuff to look at as it is a really cool story.
