There are many rules a priest can't break. A priest cannot marry. A priest cannot abandon his flock. A priest cannot forsake his God.

I've always been good at following rules.

Until she came. Then I learned new rules.

My name is Tyler Anselm Bell. I'm twenty-nine years old. Six months ago, I broke my vow of celibacy on the altar of my own church, and God help me, I would do it again.

I am a priest and this is my confession.

Review: People were losing their sh*t over this book when it came out two years ago, and then it showed up on the Kindle freebie section one day and I was like, "Yeah, okay, free is good. I'll read it for free." And then I promptly put off reading it because a) a romance with priests??? and b) a rich girl who just can't stand her #RichGirlProblems anymore and decides to run off and be bad??? and c) pointless tension and drama???????

I was skeptical.

PRIEST starts off okay. Tyler is a pretty sympathetic character. He became a priest because his younger sister was molested by the priest of their church, and keeping it a secret caused her to take her own life. I guess he became a priest as a way of redeeming the religion he grew up with and proving himself that it doesn't have to be all bad. (I'm a little unclear about this.) He's also a "typical" man who's into things other "typical" men are into, like The Walking Dead and going to the gym.

One day, a woman named Poppy comes to his confessional and starts telling him all these outrageous things that she's done, and another thing joins that "typical man" interest list: sex. Unfortunately, he can't have any, and especially not with her, but this is a romance novel, and if you think that it all ends there, pull up a seat, because you must be new here.

What results is a pornfest that's like 80% sex, 10% emotional whinging, and 10% actual plot. I think part of what turned me off this book the most is that it tries so hard to be edgy. Poppy is a rich girl who decided to flip the bird to her family by throwing her expensive education in the garbage and stripping for money. But not just anywhere - no, Poppy assures us that she strips for a place where the girls look "expensive" and all the dudes there are more than capable of paying that hefty price tag, and all her lingerie is expensive, it's described as "champagne"-colored, and Tyler totally buys it.

And Tyler: Tyler, Tyler, Tyler - this dude was not cut out for the priesthood. He's almost as sex-obsessed as Poppy, and the two of them do it in the church several times, which just seems tacky. Not only is that blasphemous AF, that's like having sex in the workplace. That's gross. They also make some "creative" uses of various church implements, like the purificator (ew) and the altar (ew). We find out that he was the go-to guy at his college for kinky doings, so I'm wondering if he loved sex so much, why this job? Surely there are other ways to go about advocating reform?

The relationship between them is also super gross. Poppy is such a user, and I couldn't stand how she was always yanking him around and mocking him on the (rare) instances when he remembered his women's studies classes from college and tried to be all about that consenting adult life. She mocked him for it! Like, GIRL. You are 100% being part of the problem right now. The addition of Sterling was also annoying, because how many gross people do we need in this story? WE'RE AT MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY, SORRY - GET OUT. I rolled my eyes at the "big misunderstanding" at the end, and rolled them even more when they celebrate their togetherness by having sex -

IN ANOTHER CHURCH.

Tyler wasn't a bad hero, but in this profession, with this heroine, in this story? Yeah, it wasn't good. The sex scenes were pretty hot but there were so many of them they all began to blend together. I guess I was hoping for a modern version of THE CARDINAL SINS and not "I F***ed the Priest!"

Title: 5 Stars โ€“ Priest is unconventional, taboo, simply straight up molten hot!
Date: Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2015
Review: โ€œIโ€™ve been at my parish since I was ordained three years back, and I love it here. Several months ago, I broke my vow of celibacy on the altar of my own church, and God help me, I would do it again. I am a priest and this is my confession.โ€

I love Simoneโ€™s work, I fell in love the first time I had the chance to spend a few hours inside, The Awakening of Ivy Leavold. Her stories tend to venture outside the box. She has talent for creating a story that is completely unique and a style of writing that not only engages me as a reader, it also refuses to let you walk away mid read. I found myself completely hypnotized by Father Tyler Bellโ€™s story and his Poppy.

The Catholic religion is not something that I am well versed in; I was raised attending church and Sunday school in my early years, but not the Catholic Church. This story was full of shockingly titillating scenes that not only made me overheat, but also think. I thought very hard about what else was taking place within this story. Because yes it is an erotic romance primarily, but there so much more happening as well.

From the moment Poppy enters Father Bellโ€™s confession booth, looking for guidance and a non-judgmental ear, he feels something critical in his life shift. He is happy, content and more than fulfilled by doing Godโ€™s work, volunteering his time to many other social groups within the church and mending the untold damages of the past. Yet from the moment Poppy begins her confessional Tyler Bell the man remerges for the first time in years, the man that he believes he had laid to rest years ago when he decided to enter Seminary school and begin his journey to becoming a Priest. She also brings painful memories of his past crashing back into present, now Tyler is conflicted, confused, and unsure of what is happening to him, and why nowโ€ฆ

โ€œI couldnโ€™t lose her. And I couldnโ€™t keep her.โ€

Poppy is new to the area, and when she meets the handsome 29 year old priest in the local church for her first confessional, she is drawn to him, and the attraction is scorching. She is entranced, and yet bewildered.

โ€œTyler, you are exactly what I want. Use me. Be rough. Leave marks.โ€ She paused. โ€œPlease.โ€

This story is listed as taboo, an erotic BDSM romance that takes place in a Catholic church of all places. And for some it most assuredly will be but for me, the taboo never outweighed the beauty. It was beautiful for all of the reasons some will find it too much or maybe even find it disrespectful to the church. I think that we all forget at times that Priests, Ministers and Pastors are indeed humans just like the rest of us. As a rule, humans are flawed and we make mistakes. Father Bell takes his calling incredibly seriously, he is dedicated to the church, God and his parishioners, and yet most importantly he remains a mere human like the rest of us. He makes mistakes and heโ€™s now realizing that he still has desires. For him this is unsettling to the extreme, he believes he had relinquished that part of himself years ago yet for some unexplainable reason this woman reawakens Father Bellโ€™s deepest and darkest desires. Poppy obliterates all of his common sense and unleashes a man who is wreck less and not at all the man he has become. He canโ€™t fathom what is happening to him. I think in some ways, he believes his sanity is slipping.

โ€œYou are truly beautiful,โ€ I said, running a finger down her jaw. And then I reached for her hand, lacing my fingers through hers. โ€œWhatever happens after this, I just want you to know that this was worth it. You were worth it. You were worth everything.โ€

The writing is meticulous, and even though this is without a doubt a work of fiction; I found it realistic and knowledgeable in more than a few aspects of the religion. I admit Iโ€™m not overly familiar with the catholic religion but this storyline seems entirely plausible, and I was addicted from page one. What really resonated for me with Priest was the forbidden romance element. I am a sucker for a forbidden romance, and Priest is the ultimate, unapologetic forbidden romance. What makes it even more powerful, is the overwhelming and almost suffocating conflict that rages within Tyler from the very beginning, until almost the very end. He knows what he is doing, thinking and feeling is wrong, but heโ€™s like a junkie, needing his next fix and Poppy is his drug of choice.

This book has scenes that are so intense, dark and erotic you may find yourself wondering if you are indeed old enough to be reading them. I questioned it, shhhh donโ€™t tell anyone. Iโ€™d heard enormous amounts of buzz about this book prior to release from early readers, bloggers, authors, every single one of them saying it was unimaginably hot, they were not wrong. This book was off the charts, question your age, look over your shoulder, sneak around, read it in private it sexy. Take a chance, read Priest, but be prepared youโ€™ll need an open mind, to thoroughly enjoy this book the way the writer intended, it is after all a work of fiction. Priest is going to push every single one of your boundaries until they no longer exist.

โ€œOne and a half inches of damnation, and all I could think about was sinking deeper into hell.โ€

Title: Autobiography?
Date: Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019
Review: Fair enough, the author had warned about this book's content. I read it last night in one go, and to me, it's split into half. One half is fairly reasonable but considerations are not indepth at all; the other half is plain sex and literarily and and visually in another league than a "normal" novel. In my opinion, it's half porn. I'm not slaying it at all, it's what it is, I'm fine with it. To me, the sexual acts do not match the protagonists' alleged feelings for each other. I have the uneasy feeling - and this is MY gut feeling alone - that the author has experienced this very same story and left the catholic church after the debacle. I just have the impression that she wants to pay back the church what happened to them. I can't quite put my finger on it but it is there for sure. I'm well familiar with the catholic church. My brother is a bishop. The two opposing personalities in both Tyler and Poppy are not really credible but if the were true in the end, it's better that Tyler has left priesthood. However, I cannot make out any feelings but pure sexual desire. Whatever floats their boat. Fazit: It's an easy and literarily not challenging read at all with a lot of very detailled sex (was a bit over the top). Certainly nothing to offend (or pay back) the catholic church because it's not worth an eye blinking. If that had been the idea, it must have back-fired.
