Woven from the nighttime aether by Carole-Anne Eschenazi and the world renowned French illustrator Alexandra Bach, this incredibly beautiful deck embodies shadowy intrigue and feminine energy. Meaning "the night" in French, Tarot de la Nuit is a journey into powerful darkness under the moonlight of glamour and magic. Each Arcana is a work of art, empowering you to find the answers you seek.

The companion booklets for most Lo Scarabeo decks are in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German.

There is little correlation to the arcana being portrayed much less the suit.
Characters and theming are almost arbitrarily assigned and we have references to Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid and Natalie Portman's Nina from Darren Aronofsky's dark masterpiece about obsession and mental illness, Black Swan, along side references to Cinderella and Pirates of the Carribean. Why? Because Swan Princess, silly! And that black feather tutu she and Mila Kunis both wore is freaking sickening AND sexy so, duh, of course its going in the deck. And pirates are totally fetch!
This is not a fairy tale themed deck. Just a handful of cards are.

Do not the French inspired title fool you. This deck is no francophile and the references start and end with those three words. And certainly don't be fooled into thinking this is a dark or shadow work deck because "de la nuit" directly translates to "of the night." The only shadow contained here is of the eye and it is most often a smoky eye shadow.

Despite nearly every card having a woman on it this is no feminist deck. I am not sure if this party on Tarot Ialand is a bachelorette party or the attendees are primarily lipstick lesbians but there are virtually no men in sight.
Or it could be that boys are stupid and totally woul have ruined the princess fantasy of the party so the wannabe Angels invited their seven gay bff's to the party to play the "boy parts" of The Emperor, the Kings and inexplicably two of the four knights and they're just as, if not more so, pretty as the girls and all are super hunky yet totally non threatening. Or this is ABC really scraping the barrel and getting the last few crumbs out of its The Bachelor franchise as these 72 babes have to compete the hands of one of the eligible bachelors in The Bachelor: Tarot Island. I am not entirely sure.

But wait! 72 wannabe angels plus 7 gay bff's/eligible bachelor's equals 79. Duh, everyone knows a tarot deck only has 78 cards.
Well that is correct, but prepare yourselves for this deck has an entirely new major arcana to debut: The Angel de la Nuit!
Who is this dark and sultry winged creature? Did she refuse to follow the divine plan of The Lord and was thus cast out of heaven? Was she just too sexy and naughty that Michael and Gabriel just couldn't handle it anymore and thus convinced JC to give her the boot? Is this the Regina George of Heaven? Or maybe Lilith? Or is this the obligatory bad girl, sexy angel you'll find at least 12 of at any random Halloween party because this Halloween costume takes virtually no effort or imagination (most likely.)
Well your guess is as good as mine as the LWB (which is otherwise not even worth mentioning except for the sake of pointing this out) has no description of this rebel whatsoever. She's so naughty she defies classification!

I was not the intended audience for this deck. I was told I needed a few more feminine options among my decks but I would not be able to offer this to any female querant with a straight face and can't imagine doing a reading of any serious nature with this. I am sure it is just fine for frivolous readings, which have their time and place.
However, I am not sure who the intended audience for this deck is. Nearly every single female tarot reader I've encountered, regardless of skillset, seems far too intelligent for this.

But I am not a female and perhaps this appeals to a certain fantasy or aesthetic that is more relatable to women. I don't know so I'll just shut up now.

I do know you can find far more cohesive, comprehensive and overall better designed decks than this for the same price.
It is pretty, in that overly airbrushed manufactured way. Not beautiful. But pretty.

Title: Beautiful deck!

Review: I love this deck! It's quite beautiful in its darkness. There is a bonus card, the angel de la nuit, that you can use or throw out. I usually throw away the box that the deck comes in, but I even like the box.

Title: Beautiful

Review: I loved this tarot deck, it is Beautiful an meaningful.
In my opinion I do not agree with the previous comment since in the book they clearly explain the meaning of the cards, which basically follows the same principles of the traditional tarot. Although the graphics are modern, and do not literally illustrate the cups, wands, swords and pentacles, it is the duty to interpret it appropriately, the person who acquires this tarot should have basic knowledge of the tarot. So it will be much easier for you to understand it. I loved it. It seems quite intuitive to me since the images contain a lot of information to extract.

Title: Just OK

Review: Didn't really resonate with this deck, and beyond the major arcana cards the deck really isn't that great. Doesn't really incorporate the symbolism of the original Rider Waite, the elements, or the zodiac signs. Not a good deck if you're trying to learn the tarot as the pictures on the cards don't relate at all to what they're labeled as. 95% of this deck is just pictures of women and don't really portray the meaning of the card. I noticed that the images were images inspired by pop culture more so than just a general darkness vibe. IE: Elsa from Frozen, Khal Drogo, Daenerys, Jon Snow and his direwolf, Ghost, from Game of Thrones were just a few that really popped out to me. Also, cool that it came with a bonus card: Angel de la Nuit, however there's no description in the book! No clue what this card is even supposed to represent, or what it means, as again, it's just a picture of a woman. Card stock is not great. Very slippery. Wound up returning.

Title: Pretty to look at, bad to read with
Date: Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2018
Review: I was pretty disappointed with this deck. First off the card stock is poorly made and slippery. While working on spreads with this deck, I had cards flying out left and right. I found it very hard to work with. The imagery is beautiful, but there are very few cards that stay even remotely close to the RWS cards. This is not a traditional deck and was downright hard to read. I would advise a beginning reader to avoid this deck, as I could see it being incredibly frustrating. I would advise an experienced reader to proceed buying this deck with caution. If you’re a reader who doesn’t need or follow the traditional card imagery or meanings, you might enjoy this deck. If you’re like me and don’t want to reinvent the wheel, skip this mess of a deck.

Title: Fantastic Pack
Date: Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2022
Review: The two artists behind this deck are both women. Women therefore dominate this pack, and this enhances the deck. The lovers are man and woman, but even the Hanged Man is a woman. Of the four knights in the deck, three are women (all the kings, thankfully, are men). Although I am a purist as far as the basic elements that are supposed to appear on the cards, the one criticism I have is that the suits are seldom depicted on the cards themselves. You have to read the card to know what suit you're observing. This hardly diminishes the artwork in the deck! Brilliant colors, bold contrasts, and most important -- UNIQUE designs -- are found throughout. Some of the cards are done so well it's like looking at a painting or a photograph but the deck shows true ART, not brilliant color copy machine reproductions. Good card stock, beautiful images, everything. Could not recommend a better set to beginner or expert.

Title: Enchanting!!
Date: Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2019
Review: The mood and artistic style are definitely something that connects with me on an intuitive level. Although I initially hesitated to purchsse this deck because its lack of diversity, I just couldn't seem to get it out of my mind and kept putting in and taking it out of my shopping cart.
I wish there were more men. However the author does state it is meant to be a dark feminine deck. Overall a lovely addition to my card collection and I look forward to see what else the artist creates in the future!
