Title: Ryan’s and Makenna’s story

Review: Savage Urges is Ryan’s and Makenna’s story.

Ryan is the broody and quiet enforcer for the Phoenix Pack. He’s strong and dominant and not one to talk or joke around much. Makenna is a loner wolf who volunteers at a shelter that saves and houses different breeds of shifters. She’s confident and loyal to those she cares about.

Ryan realizes the minute he sets eyes on Makenna that she’s different. He feels a connection to her and his wolf feels the same. The more time they spend together, the more he is convinced that she’s his true mate. Makenna didn’t believe they were mates so Ryan had his work cut out for him. Throw in the problems with Remy wanting the shelter and the chaos he creates and there was a lot going on.

I enjoyed meeting the new characters as well as visiting with ones from the previous books. I’m over Greta and wish one of these heroines would tell her off in a way she’d stop with all the smack criticism. It was only cute in the first book and has been annoying since.

Tao’s book is next with Riley who we met in this story. I’m excited to see how their story evolves.

Title: Ryan and Makenna's story

Review: This was one of my favourite installments of the Phoenix Pack books up to date. I loved Ryan in the other books and his story didn't disappoint me here, either. Makenna is a lone shifter who volunteers at a shelter that cares for and rehomes other lone shifters. As her role is to potentially rehome those in her care, she extensively researches the family of the loners to ensure the new pack they go to is suitable and safe. One evening she finds a young wolf shifter in her doorway. She takes him to the shelter and her background check shows Ryan might be a suitable candidate for rehoming Zac. While investigating him, he confronts her and is immediately attracted to her. He is enthusiastic about taking his cousin Zac into his pack and as he becomes more involved in Zac and Makenna's life, he learns that the shelter is under threat from another local pack who wants the land the shelter is on.

Ryan realises that Makenna is his mate early on in the book and while she continues to need convincing, it was refreshing to read a book where the true mating is brought up early. Ryan maintained the character traits he was known for in the other books - brooding, silent and tough as nails. Makenna was a likeable female lead. She had the author's typical trademark characteristics for the heroine, i.e. feisty, sassy and strong. She was also quirky, asking random questions - this smacked of females in previous novels in this series. However Makenna was a bit vulnerable due to the lone shifter lifestyle, again making for a nice change. The plot focuses on the shelter and the threat from the other pack as its alpha wants to attain the home in order to have access to the young boys on the premises. Yes, you read that correctly.

If you've read other books in the Phoenix series, there will be nothing groundbreaking here as once again, a similar formula is followed. Alpha male meets confident, spirited female and they will do anything to keep her in their lives. The pack members continue to feature and play their roles established in prior books. They were not overly accepting of Makenna as a lone wolf and while this was frustrating, it was resolved. This book had the main characters exchanging nicknames, similarly to previous books in this series. Unfortunately, Greta continues to make an appearance even though her character has well and truly been done to death. There was no angst with an ex in this book which made a great change of scenery from Suzanne Wright, although there was, unfortunately, a jealous female.

I didn't realise, but the Mercury Pack offshoot starts just before this book, so if you're pedantic about reading order, you might want to start there first as one of the newer characters crosses over into this book briefly. It wasn't a big deal but as a fan of the series, I noticed and will now go back to the first book of the other pack. If you haven't read any of the other books, they all do fine as a stand alone but are greatly enhanced by reading the other stories first as there are recurring characters and themes.

Overall, it was entertaining and well-paced and you know what you're getting when you buy this author. Personally, I loved Ryan and he made this book. I'll continue to read this series.

Title: Another paranormal story hit of the Phoenix Pack.

Review: First, I have to voice one of my pet peeves and protest the cover pic of this couple. Ryan is described as over 6 feet tall, that McKenna refers to as 'the broad guy with the snarl and the military haircut'. I pictured him as a stoic, grunting, never smiling, quiet, cowboy or military officer throughout this story.

McKenna is a caring, loyal, quirky, bangle wearing, bohemian and superstitious woman and lone wolf, with a sharp mind and mouth, and has multi colored hair 'of long, beach-layered waves—a mix of gold, copper, dark red, and a hint of plum purple, making him think of autumn leaves'. McKenna translates his grunts for people so he doesn't have to articulate himself. They're too cute together.

Now stepping off my soapbox- this is another suspense filled plot, liberally sprinkled with fun and snarky dialog. McKenna comes out with weird comments at tense moments like- "“So . . . do you think stairs are supposed to go up or down?” Or "Does it bother anyone else that the Easter Bunny carries eggs?” She's a true caring and loyal woman who's devoted her life to protecting and rehoming the loners that come to the shelter.

I also loved that Ryan knew right away that McKenna was his true mate, and never wavered in that thought, or tried to change her. You'll love this book.

Review: After Alphas Trey and Taryn (from book 1), I think is my second favorite couple! Talk about opposites attract. She's superstitious, he's logic and facts. She's empathetic and free spirited, he's gruff and prone to speaking in grunts. Makenna is a lone wolf. Wolves like Ryan believe lone shifters are disloyal and untrustworthy. Makenna's reasons for not being with her pack make it clear that's not true. Makenna volunteers at a shelter for shifters. As the Phoenix Pack spends more time around the shelter and its residents, they shed their misconceptions. When the shelter is targeted is by an dangerous alpha wolf, Phoenix pack lends support to protect the shelter and its residents. Ryan may be a wolf of few words but he recognizes she is someone special. Ryan breaks down her walls and the pack helps Makenna experience the joys of pack life. Makenna will fight to the death anyone who threatens the shelter and Ryan would the same for her. It takes her a little longer to realize he's her true mate.
