  Title: Very good book but not Steve’s best

  Review: First of all I get tired of Steve’s preachy kumbaya attitude. That said these books are usually actually written by a collaborator on the ground.
  
  This is very current. Used it for my 4th trip to cz.
  
  The good is that he included some new small towns I’d never heard of - Trebic Telc Trebon & Mikulov and the information on them is very good. The bad is Brno is never mentioned. There’s plenty to do in Brno, it’s not Prague but then Siena isn’t Rome either. Found Brno to be a pretty upscale clean dynamic city with some superb restaurants beer halls shopping and spas. Barcel Palace hotel is one of the best I’ve been in in over 20 trips to Europe. Old city punches above its weight. But moreso the city is an excellent base from which to explore the four above mentioned cities plus Olomouc and several others.
  Second glaring fault was no mention whatsoever of Moravian Karst natural area, full of caves sinkholes and underground rivers a half hour from Brno. Well worth a day trip and sadly overlooked.
  Finally RS “disses” other review sites as unreliable (like TripAdvisor) which in my trips has almost never steered us wrong.

  Review: I purchased Rick Steves Prague & The Czech Republic tour book as an addendum to the information I already had from the tour company with which I was travelling and for the few extra days I was staying in Prague after the tour. It served the purpose perfectly. The map within the book helped to view the relationship of the various neighborhoods in Prague: New Town, Old, Town, The Jewish Quarter, The Lesser Quarter and the Castle Quarter. The book helped to both enhance information I received from my guide and to remind me of what I had learned. Finally, it helped me to begin to understand the Czech money, because even though the Czech Republic is part of the European Union and the Euro is accepted in some places, for the most part, the Czech Koruna (Crown) is the most widely accepted form of money. The tour I was on took us to many towns outside of Prague in the Czech Republic. This guide book helped me to orient myself within the country. I highly recommend it.

  Title: Ninth Edition: Wonderful Guide to Prague

  Review: (There are many reviews here; but I wanted to chime in with one for the Ninth Edition, since most are for older versions.)
  
  I am packing my bags to return home from Prague and plan to leave this for the next person in this apartment, so I thought I'd write a quick review. I wish I'd used the book more than I did, but the recommendations we used were top notch. (As I'm leaving and skimming through "what did I miss"?, I realize that yeah, just riding a tram such as 22 to get a feel for things would have been a great idea.)
  
  We stayed in Old Town, which is noisy but wonderful. And probably what I enjoyed most about Prague has been wandering around the crooked lanes and getting a little bit lost and stumbling on a nice place to eat and some David Cerny statues. Pick a direction to head and wander around... we spent several days with this strategy and just loved Prague to pieces. This is why we didn't end up picking up the book much. We never had a bad meal, for example, sometimes seeking out a particular place, but often just finding one.
  
  But of course, one wants to know the things "not to miss", so a book is helpful, as are the back stories and logistical tips, and I have really enjoyed this book for this.
  
  Food highlights for us included a splurge to eat at Hotel u Prince Terasa (thanks to Rick's advice), which was not as expensive as we'd feared. (About $120 US for two of us, with all the food we could want and many drinks as we sat their enjoying our lovely perch.) We also enjoyed the vegetarian Maitrea and Mjelnice... but really, everything was great, whether we sought it out or stumbled onto it.
  
  We used Rick's advice to pick the sights we wanted to see, as well as to decide to take a day trip to Cesky Krumlov.
  
  Anyway, great guide, and I recommend it to you.

  Review: Rick & Co. know how to lead you through a city. No question. All the usual great info and understandable maps are here.
  But things are not presented in one place in the book. The topic materials tend to be a bit scattered around in the volume.
  The index helps a lot in finding things, but I'm not sure the organization is the best.
  Somebody else wrote this book with Rick, and it shows. Some things are presented twice with slightly different viewpoints or information.
  It could possibly have been presented more logically,... or not. Hard to say, but it was still my GO TO reference for this trip, and it served me well.
  The "walks" are excellent and were a very important part of the book for me. I particularly benefited from the Vysehrad walk.
  I would never go anywhere without my Rick along.

  Review: This book is out of date, and Mr. Steves is not final authority on what you should see and not see in the Czech Republic. Some of the book is good, and accurate, but some of it is out of date. Rick is sort of biased in alot of things he says and also in the places you should go. Some of it is accurate, but some of it is not. Read more things or find forums on what to do, there is no need to buy the book, I feel I wasted my money quite honestly.

  Review: If you're heading to Prague, just bring a copy of this book along. I had a lovely time in Prague following most of his tips. The only caveat I have is that the bus system just was not working well when I got there because of construction problems, etc. so I had to rely on Google Maps and good ole'-fashioned talking with locals. The restaurant recommendations tend to be on point, and he is 100% right on the museum recommendations. Not sure if his accuracy applies to the rest of the country, but even if you're just in Prague, investing in a copy of this book is worth it.
