Review: Keith Selbo's sharp whit and dry sense of humor kept me coming back to this book time and time again. By the end of the book, it felt like Keith was an old friend . Well written, interesting and informative. If you are an aspiring AT through hiker or just curious about life on the At, this is a book you will want to read. "The Badger" is destined to become an AT classic that everyone should read.

Review: “The Badger” is a delightful first-person account of a very determined old man who set out from Georgia to walk the Appalachian Trail all the way to Maine. A distance of 3500 km. That’s the equivalent of walking from Bordeaux on the Atlantic coast of France to Moscow, deep in European Russia -- except the Appalachian Trail seems to have more mountainous terrain.Every night of his journey, the author would sit down and write in his log, describing the day. The result became this little volume, the (apparently) unedited compilation of those nightly log entries. It makes for surprisingly good reading. The reader becomes the hiker’s companion on an epic journey as the old man talks about how the day went every evening..I liked this book much better than other accounts of long walks that I have read. In part because of the almost total lack of pretense, but primarily because of the immediacy he brings to the narrative. It’s not a memoir, it’s a recounting of events as they happen, elation and despair, setback and success. The reader finds herself rooting for this old guy -- mentally willing him to make it all the way to the end of the trail, not to give up.A really enjoyable experience and highly recommended.

Review: I have read most AT trail books, and my favorites are those that give me a nice description of what hiking the trail would really be like.This was a personal day to day journal from which I learned what he ate, where he stayed, names of other hikers, and descriptions of injuries and discomforts.I congratulate Badger on his accomplishment, but the book left me disappointed as a reader who wanted to experience a description of the actual trail.
