Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.  (William Bryan)

My American friend Eric hated the word destiny. Recently, the term "parental mess" is often used to say that one's destiny depends on one's parents. I hate this word. Although it cannot be scientifically proven, I do not like the idea that my life depends on others.

When I teach at a tutoring school, I see students who are defeatist like that. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that they are the majority.

They are the type who exclaim, "The reason my academic ability is not improving is because the way the cram school teaches is bad!

The type that shouts, "My academic ability is not improving because of the way I was taught at the cram school! Many of them are also parents.

In reality, children who pass entrance exams to difficult-to-enter universities are the exact opposite type. There was a girl I taught who passed the entrance exam to a medical school of the former Imperial University of Medicine. Her name is Momo-chan (pseudonym). She was from a single mother family and was not financially able to go to medical school.

So, when I consulted with her, I introduced her to National Defense Medical College and Jichi Medical College.

Even in such an environment, she passed the entrance exam to the former Imperial Medical University and graduated with a scholarship and a part-time job. She was also a good athlete in the sports club, so she was kept back when she left the club. She was also courted by boys because she was Ms. Beppin.

However, she was determined and quit the club in her sophomore year of high school, and she did not accept any advances from boys and concentrated on her studies (I don't know the reality. (I don't know the reality, but that's how it looked to me.)
