This flightless nocturnal bird is also one of the heaviest, with an average weight of 2 to 4 kg. During breeding, kakapo produces a loud boom-like sound. After about 20 or so loud booms, it produces a high-pitched metallic sound, which can go on for up to eight hours every night for two to three months. The high-pitched metallic sound it produces is about 132 decibels, and can be tied up to 7 km away.
