Oshun

Who is Oshun African goddess? Oshun became a popular African goddess after Beyoncé hinted about her in her Lemonade music video. Oshun has her origin in Yoruba, and she is the god of sweet and freshwaters. She always has a mirror to admire her beauty. Oshun is revered by many for her abilities to heal the sick, foster prosperity, and bring fertility. The image of this goddess is represented by a stunning, charming, and coquettish young lady. Oshun means sweetness, joy, beauty, and good cheer.

Black Beauty

The mantra “Black is beautiful” or Black beauty was widely popular in the 1960s. It grew out of the Civil Rights Movement of the time. The statement and its accompanying ideas encouraged Black people to embrace their natural features and to stop trying to “eliminate” their African-identified traits. Today, these same ideas are expressed in hashtags such as #blackgirlmagic, #darkskingirls, and #melaninmagic where Black people, especially young Black people, continue to celebrate their looks.
