New Zealand have suffered a major setback ahead of their five-match ODI series against India, with key batters Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out due to injuries. The absence of two important players presents a significant challenge for the Black Caps as they prepare to face India on home soil.

The India vs New Zealand ODI series begins on November 4, 2026, at Eden Park in Auckland. Following India's 3-2 victory in the T20I series, both teams will be eager to make a strong start in the 50-over format.

Mark Chapman Ruled Out With Hamstring Injury

Mark Chapman will miss the entire India ODI series as he continues recovering from a left hamstring injury. A recent MRI scan confirmed that the batter requires approximately two additional weeks of rehabilitation before returning to full fitness.

Chapman had already missed the T20I series against India, and his continued absence leaves New Zealand without an experienced left-handed batter who can strengthen the middle order.

His ability to accelerate during the middle overs and contribute against both pace and spin will be difficult to replace. The Black Caps will need other batters to step up and provide stability in his absence.

Ravindra's absence is particularly significant because of his versatility. He provides valuable batting depth, contributes with left-arm spin and offers flexibility in team selection.

Head coach Rob Walter acknowledged that losing both players was disappointing but expressed confidence in the squad's ability to adapt.

New Zealand Cricket has made several squad adjustments following the injuries.

These changes provide New Zealand with additional batting options and greater squad flexibility.

How the Injuries Could Affect New Zealand

New Zealand will need to find the right batting combinations while maintaining balance between their batting and bowling departments. The replacements will also have an opportunity to make a strong impression against a competitive Indian side.

For India, the injury setbacks could provide an advantage, particularly during the middle overs when Ravindra and Chapman would normally contribute.
