Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that leaving the Portugal national team camp was a mistake, but the legendary forward has made it clear that he is not ready to end his international career. The 41-year-old addressed the controversy in a lengthy statement, explaining his disagreement with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus and apologizing to his teammates and supporters.

Ronaldo's decision to leave the Portugal camp had raised serious questions about his future with the national team. However, his latest comments have confirmed that he still wants to represent Portugal and compete for more international success.

Cristiano Ronaldo Explains Why He Left Portugal Camp

Ronaldo said his decision to leave the Portugal camp came after what he described as a breakdown in trust with Jorge Jesus.

According to the Portugal captain, the initial plan was for him to miss the matches against Norway and Denmark as part of a fitness-management strategy. However, Ronaldo claimed that Jesus later told him he would play for around 30 minutes against Norway.

Ronaldo warmed up during the match but was ultimately not introduced. He said he felt the coach had broken his word.

A subsequent meeting involving Ronaldo, Jesus and Al Nassr sporting director Simão Coutinho reportedly produced an agreement for Jesus to explain the situation during a press conference. Ronaldo claimed that the public comments did not reflect what had been agreed privately, leading him to leave the camp.

Ronaldo Admits His Portugal Camp Exit Was Wrong

Despite strongly defending his position, Ronaldo acknowledged that walking away from the national team camp was not the right decision.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner apologized to his teammates and the Portuguese people, accepting responsibility for leaving the squad while serving as captain.

Ronaldo also stated that he understands his actions could result in punishment from the Portuguese Football Federation. He acknowledged that his status as Portugal captain makes the situation more serious and said he would accept the consequences.

This admission could help ease some of the tension surrounding the dispute and potentially create a path toward reconciliation.

Cristiano Ronaldo Vows to Continue His International Career

The biggest revelation from Ronaldo's statement was that he has no intention of retiring from international football at this stage.

Ronaldo made it clear that his ambitions go beyond simply receiving a farewell match. He wants to continue competing for Portugal as long as he remains physically fit and performs well for his club.

The Portugal captain said he would be available for selection after serving any potential suspension, provided he remains fit and continues scoring goals for Al Nassr.

His comments demonstrate that Ronaldo still has a strong desire to contribute to Portugal rather than simply end his career with a ceremonial appearance.

Ronaldo Wants a Proper Farewell to Portugal

Although Ronaldo is not retiring immediately, he acknowledged that his international career will eventually come to an end.

The veteran forward said he expects to have one or more farewell matches when the time comes. However, he emphasized that competing and winning for Portugal remains his primary motivation.

Ronaldo's relationship with the national team has been central to his career. He has represented Portugal for more than two decades and remains the country's most recognizable football figure.

The situation between Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus remains unresolved. Ronaldo has presented his version of events, while Jesus has disputed the claim that an agreement was made regarding the press conference. The Portuguese Football Federation has yet to publicly settle the conflicting accounts.

That leaves Ronaldo's immediate return to the Portugal squad uncertain. Any disciplinary decision could also influence when he next represents his country.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo's statement has removed one major doubt: he still wants to play international football.

camp exit created one of the biggest talking points surrounding the national team, but his latest statement has clarified his intentions. While he admits that leaving the camp was wrong and accepts that punishment may follow, Ronaldo remains committed to representing Portugal.

At 41, the legendary forward is still determined to compete, score goals and help his country win. His international journey is therefore not over yet. If Ronaldo maintains his fitness and form, Portugal could see its iconic captain back in the national team sooner rather than later.
