I held on tight, with all my might

To memories of you and the past

But my grasp began to weaken,

As the hurt and pain amassed

I tried to hold on to the love,

That once was pure and true

But I came to realize,

It was time to let go of you

I let go of the anger,

The resentment, and the pain

I opened up my heart,

To let in love once again

I let go of the sorrow,

And the tears I used to cry

I choose to focus on the present,

And the future that's yet to fly

I released the burden,

That I carried all along

And I felt a weight lift off me,

As I let go of the wrong

It's not easy to let go,

But sometimes it's for the best

I'll hold on to the lessons,

And put the rest to rest.
