  私の知る優れた受験指南書というと和田秀樹さんの「新・受験技法」（新評論）と「医学部受験の英知」（エール出版）の２冊となります。受験に成功するための魔法など無いことを知らせてくれます。

　「合格」の二文字を手にする魔法など存在しない。あるのは、努力、決意、勤勉だけです。それが出来ないなら、旧帝や国立大学医学部の合格など夢みない方がいい。どうせ成功できないのだから。

　そして、成功できなかった方々が教壇に立って合格指南を語っているのが大多数の「学校」「予備校」「塾」なのです。草野球しか経験していないのにメジャーに行くためのノウハウを語っているコーチのようなもの。

　よく野球のルールも知らないのに野球部の顧問をしている教師を見かけます。同情はしますが、そんな練習の中から一流の野球選手が育つわけがない。本当に同情すべきは生徒たちなのです。

  Two of the best books I know of on exam preparation are Hideki Wada's "New Examination Techniques" (Shin Hyoron) and "The Wisdom of Medical School Entrance Exams" (Yale Press). They let us know that there is no magic to succeed in entrance examinations.



　There is no magic to get the two words "pass. There is only hard work, determination, and diligence. If you can't do that, don't dream about getting into an old imperial or national university medical school. You will not succeed anyway.



　And it is the majority of "schools," "prep schools," and "cram schools" that are taught by those who could not succeed and talk about how to pass. They are like coaches who have only experienced grass baseball but are talking about the know-how to go to the major leagues.



　I often see teachers advising baseball teams even though they don't know the rules of baseball. I sympathize with them, but there is no way that first-rate baseball players can grow up from such practice. It is the students who should really be pitied.
