Contentment entails an experience of satisfaction in one's situation or circumstance. In this write-up, I’ll be explaining contentment as a medium for management and multiplication of one's resources from the biblical standpoint.

Importance of Contentment

1 Timothy 6:1-11 explained the character of how a slave should live with honour and respect his master. Verse 6 of the same chapter opened us to a certain way to live godly and then live satisfactorily. “Godliness with contentment is a great gain”. This scripture vividly gives details on the way we can channel our lack or wealth towards achievement or gain. The further verses detail on that believers shouldn’t be in pursuit of wealth for selfish gain or for flamboyant or extravagant living. 

[And it is, indeed, a source of immense profit, for] godliness accompanied by contentment (that contentment which is a sense of inward sufficiency) is great and abundant gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously, we cannot take anything out of the world; But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied). But those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish (useless, godless) and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction and miserable perishing. For the love of money is a root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have been led astray and have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves through with many acute [mental] pangs. 1Timothy6:6-10 AMP.

Does the scripture give occasion for poverty? Is the scripture revealing to us that we shouldn’t work or desire a better or pleasant living? Absolutely NO!

After all, the scripture affirmed that we should rather work with how hands, … a little sleep and a little slumber increases poverty. However, there is a biblical way to getting riches and other related achievements. Apostle Paul affirmed in Philippians 4:12-13 I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I also know how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want. I have strength for all things in Christ, Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]. Apostle simply explained a certain way to live a satisfactory life and then continue to grow and gain momentum in life. He knew how to be satisfied when he has nothing because his satisfaction is in CHRIST. He also understood how to live in abundance because CHRIST is the one overseeing his wealth. 

Therefore, believers need to be conscious of their satisfaction [CHRIST] and then manage the little in satisfaction, having faith for multiplication and saving as little amount that could be saved. Believers should in turns hold their faith firmly in CHRIST for abundance and riches.

As the Lord begin to bring forth abundance, He also loves to oversee everything. Majorly, when He gives He wants believers to use the wealth or gift from God to build structures and systems that make for the growth of His kingdom. This is advantageous because it will further help the believer in question to get further relevance and riches. The giving of God is not for extravagant living as the worldly system encourages but for the blessings of the lives of others. Experientially, study the lives of our fathers in faith, you’ll discover that though they may have great possessions, but those possessions are majorly for the expansion of the kingdom whereas they start from little, despise not your little beginning, GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS A GREAT GAIN.
