The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the latest release in The Hunger Games series. This prequel movie introduces the villain Coriolanus Snow through his actions during the 10th installment of The Hunger Games.

Therefore, Donald Sutherland did not return to play the character in The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The young Coriolanus Snow is now played by Tom Blyth.

Here's a synopsis of The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The movie is set 64 years before the events of The Hunger Games (2012). An 18-year-old young man is ambitious to restore his family's fading glory due to the rebellion war against Panem's capital, the Capitol.

That young man is Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth). He is the last hope for the once rich and powerful Snow family. Everything changes when Coriolanus' father is killed after the war and the family falls into poverty.

At the time, Coriolanus was competing for a college scholarship from Plinth. He and the other participants thought the winner would be chosen based on their academic performance at the Capitol's most prestigious high school, The Academy.

Therefore, Coriolanus confidently capitalized on the excellence of his achievements. Unexpectedly, that year there was a new test to determine the winner and recipient of the scholarship.

All participants were assigned to be mentors for the tributes or participants of the 10th Hunger Games.

The Hunger games is an annual event that makes children from every district in the dystopian country of Panemm fight to the death as punishment for past rebellions against the Capitol.

The winner is not only the mentor who succeeds in delivering the tribute to become the Hunger games champion, but also whose tribute succeeds in attracting the attention and enthusiasm of the Hunger Games TV audience.

Coriolanus was disappointed with the new rules. However, he is assigned to mentor a District 12 female participant, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a member of a nomadic musician group called Covey who has no martial arts skills.

Because of this, Coriolanus believed it would be difficult for her to win.

On the day of the announcement, Lucy Gray unexpectedly catches the attention of the Capitol's audience after singing defiantly and slipping a hidden snake into the clothes of the cruel mayor's daughter.

Coriolanus eventually realized Lucy's talent. He was eager to try to keep her alive in a game of one-upmanship. On the other hand, it was also done so that he could get a scholarship.

During the game, Coriolanus did everything he could to make sure Lucy stayed alive. Before you know it, the seeds of love begin to grow between the mentor and his student.

The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is again directed by Francis Lawrence with a script by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins.

A lineup of top Hollywood stars also enliven this film, such as Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andres Riveira, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes opens on November 15 in theaters.
