The Brahmaputra, also known as Yarlung Tsangpo in China, is a river system that holds many world records. But that is essentially unheard of. Its source near Mount Kailash, one of the highest peaks in the world and Asia's most sacred mountain, was unknown until the turn of the 20th century. Even then, people believed that its high and lower reaches belonged to different rivers.
