Cross River Opts For Investment In Green Infrastructure Project

Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams has restated the State's preparedness in diversifying its Wealth through investment in Green Infrastructure Project to safeguard the environment and also diversifying the economic portfolio.
The Commissioner stated this while giving a keynote address at day-two of the workshop held at Calabar International Conference Center.
He said the climate action plans will not only mitigate environmental impact but also uplift the living standard of communities, adding that Green infrastructure projects can create employment opportunities, promote sustainable agriculture, and enhance the overall well-being of the citizens.
Prince Williams further that Cross River can position itself as a regional and national leader in green innovation. By embracing renewable energy, nature-based solutions, and cutting-edge technologies, the action plans will not only secure a sustainable future for our state but also set a precedent for others to follow.
The Commissioner stated with Innovation being the engine that drives progress. Embracing cutting-edge technologies in energy storage, carbon capture, and sustainable transportation is vital. Maintaining that Cross River will be at the forefront of technological advancements that redefine our approach to climate resilience.
Williams posited that while other sisters in the Niger Delta have indeed amassed considerable wealth from fossil fuel activities, but which comes at a profound cost — environmental degradation, community displacement, and a precarious reliance on finite resources, Cross River has a comparative advantage and unprecedented opportunity to redefine its trajectory and showcase that prosperity can be achieved through green initiatives without compromising environmental standards.
He Charged all to be committed to the cause of sustainable development, mindful of their responsibility to the environment, our people, and the global community adding that the journey to NETZERO by 2060 is not just an obligation; it is a promise to a better, greener future.
