Review: I made the challah rolls stuffed and raisins (optional), and I have to say that the directions were pretty clear. I also appreciated that the weights were given in the ingredients list--a sure sign of a serious baking book. Although, I have to say I did not use the full amount of salt stated in recipe. Seemed way too much, like 2 1/2 teaspoons for that small amount of flour would make it very salty. So use your judgment. I tasted the finished product, and I have to say that for the first time, the texture was light and fluffy! I've made challah only a couple times before and they were more on the dense side. My only critique is that it needed to be sweeter! It was a little bland, even though the texture was great. I would have loved if she would have included an optional amount of honey to put in for some extra depth of flavor and sweetness. I will have to experiment with that. I'll edit if and when I bake some more from this book.

Review: Purchased this book shortly before moving and packed in my open-me-first box. I also follow the author on facebook. After seeing one of her posts on facebook, I was happy to see it was gluten-free. I didn't stop there, though. For the first time ever, I read a cookbook from cover to cover and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the stories and personal memories that are included. It contains recipes I had as a little girl and now I'll have those recipes. New to baking? Beth makes it easy with a comprehensive introduction and explicit recipe instructions and several shortcuts. It's great for novice and experienced bakers alike. I've picked out 2 to 3 recipes I'll be making for the upcoming holidays. TBH, I haven't been this excited about a cookbook in decades. Highly recommend for your collection or as a gift. Thanks Beth!

Review: I have been so impressed with this cookbook. I'm not an intuitive baker and I tend to mess something up when I follow a blog recipe, but this cookbook makes me look and feel like I'm a professional baker. Every recipe is clearly tried and tested, and the directions are concise and straightforward and come out perfectly the first time. Spectacular! Don't think twice about getting this!

Review: Whatever your religion/persuasion, this wonderful cookbook needs to be your go-to for the best baked goods on your menu. I especially love Nana's Mandelbrot, a deliciously crunchy Jewish version of biscotti, chock full of dried cherries and - of course - almonds. Beth's comments and notes also make you feel like you're right there in the kitchen baking with her. Oh my God yummy!

Review: I'm neither Jewish nor a baker, but I'm starting to believe I'm becoming both! My baking was limited to cookies and banana bread, but thanks to Beth's wonderful guidance and easy to follow instructions I now feel comfortable making bagels, chocolate babka, roskas, and apple strudel. I now have the confidence to try baking things I loved eating, but was too intimidated to make on my own. Beth's instructions make things simple, and she offers suggestions or substitutions that are extremely helpful. An added plus are all her stories behind the recipes, which make baking these goodies a more personal experience. I can't wait to try making everything in this book!

Review: There are so many fabulous recipes that I didn't know where to start. I made the marble loaf cake and it was super to easy to make. Love the swirl of chocolate in this moist cake. The family is gobbling it up and they are begging me to make the challah next. I'm super intimidated with bread recipes, but can't wait to try more. Beth makes it very to easy to follow and understand with her humor and clear directions. This book takes me back to visiting my grandparents and those fabulous Jewish delis we used to frequent!
