We owe a great debt to Jean Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797–1849) for his Atlas of Anatomy, which was not only a massive event in medical history, but also remains one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated anatomical treatises ever published.

Bourgery began work on his magnificent atlas in 1830 in cooperation with illustrator Nicolas Henri Jacob (1782–1871), a student of the French painter Jacques Louis David. Review: Excellent book. Beautiful quality binding, printing, paper, and colors. The trilingual element (French, English, German) adds another layer of interest, and the three are nicely laid out on each page. I purchased as a gift for my partner currently in medical residency and even though they're over 150 years old, the illustrations are still useful and valuable even today because of their level of detail and clarity.

The tomes near the end of the book have some pretty extraordinarily detailed surgical techniques from the 19th century, which is equal parts fascinating and horrifying. Proceed with caution and a strong stomach from the latter 1/7th of the book onward.

Overall an incredible value for such a beautiful book. This is one to keep for a lifetime.

Review: Incredible amd amazing work. I can go through these pages over and over again. Learn (both content and drawing). Just beautiful.

Its unbelievable how they were able to depict all these details and information long before any modern technology.

For the right person this is also an amazing present.

Review: I’m here for the content and it is great as expected but the exterior was damaged. It came in with a ripped up plastic wrapping around the book. I could tell it was aged, perhaps was laying around in storage for a long time but I was surprised to see how banged up it was haha. I don’t care too much personally about it as long as the pages were all fine and they are. Here are some pictures of my book. Just wanted to warn some people about damages before buying if the state of the book is a priority for you people.

Review: Wow, this book is really beautiful. It is thick and solid and the pages are heavy and good quality. And oh my, the pictures are AMAZING. I purchased the Atlas of Human Anatomy and Surgery for my ER nurse husband as a birthday present and we can't stop looking at it. The information is so interesting, the diagrams are so precise and colorful; it's really surprising it isn't far more expensive.

If you have a friend in the medical field I think this is a great gift option.
