I grew up on a farm and mollys experiences bring forth great memories. While her language is somewhat colorful it is true to who she is I would recommend this book

Review: I read the reviews, I figured this was going to be this raunchy filthy mouthed cookbook. Other were so incensed it went in the garbage. (Please if that is all you have to complain about in life your a lucky human being) ! If you love the quirky over achieving girl you see on FN you will love this book. I don't know anyone that went from her lifestyle to a sugar beet farm at the Minnesota, North Dakota border that wouldn't have a few pent up frustrations or scurrilousness. She is her quirky straight forward adorable self in a wonderful cookbook. I am an old school hard bound cookbook person. I don't mind a spatter or two on a page if a terrific recipe. I loved the buttermilk fried green tomatoes (I added the addition of a crab salad stacked with a fresh roasted corn relish), pistachio loaf delicious. I got the cookbook for her Challah recipe and it didn't disappoint! All the Alliums fried rice to die for. It will definitely make you laugh like ( her ex boyfriend's meatless meatballs! I just loved it. It changed my meatless views. I am cooking a lot more farm to table which is much healthier. It is a refreshing new perspective on food and flavor combinations I wasn't neccessary pairing together.

Review: This book is filled with really interesting and unique flavor combinations, and I definitely think that Molly's food sets her apart from many other food bloggers. Here is what I've made:

The Wild Rice Hotdish with Ras El Hanout, and while I had no idea what to expect from the combination of flavors it came out delicious. The Spring Vegetable and Quinoa Hotdish is at the top of my list to try next.

I also made the Everything Bagel Bourekas with Eggs, Scallions, and Cheese, which were a huge hit at my house. They were so delicious and tasted like something you would buy from a nice, hip bakery.

The Sesame Coffee Cake really highlighted the tahini flavor, which made it earthy and different from any other coffee cake I've baked.

The Dukkah Donuts which honestly were not my favorite, but I think it's mostly because I've discovered I'm not a huge blood orange fan.

The Scallion Pancakes and Maple Syrup Slaw were unreal good. They were a little involved--not hard. Just time-consuming. I probably should not have made them on a Tuesday, but it was worth it.

Spinach and Feta Rugelach were on rotation in my house for a while. It's a really great savory baked good and delicious way to get more spinach in your life.

Quinoa Carbonara--LOVE THIS!! I always have the ingredients on hand, so this is a great, comforting, back-pocket meal for me.

Chicken Paprikash was a little meh for me. It was quick and easy, but somewhat lacking in flavor.

I've also made the pitas twice. Good, accessible flatbread recipe. It is in my back pocket now, too.

That's all so far, but there are so many more on my must-make list. I really really love this book. A lot. As someone who just moved from a big city to a rural area, I also appreciate how she uses accessible ingredients and ways to mix your own spice blends that don't require extra online orders.

There are a few cons, however, which is why I took off one star. First, some of the recipes are a bit cutesy and unrealistic, and strike me as a bit gimmicky. The clown cones, chocolate and vanilla slider cake, hot dog cheese, egg in a hole, and cute little lunch are things I will never make. I realize that some of these recipes were to convey Molly's life and personality in some instances, but they seemed like filler to me.

But more importantly, specifically for the Kindle version, the organization is AWFUL. There is no Index and no listing of contents for the chapters, so you have to keyword search or flip through to find anything, and because there is a lot of writing in between recipes, it's very frustrating.

Review: Molly on the Range is currently my obsession. To name ( a couple ;) books I have Whats Gaby Cooking, Cookie and Kate, Love and Lemons and the Mexican Home Kitchen.
This book is filled with mostly heavy foods...like quinoa with bacon and fried pickles... It does not have salads.
As far as the language..I don't see a problem with it. She uses it in a humerus way. For example, one recipe is titled as My ex boyfriends meatless meatballs haha. The book has more then just recipes. She makes it almost like a story by writing about her farm life with her husband and extended family. Overall this book is my favorite in my library.

Review: Nearly every recipe from this cookbook is .a crowd-pleaser. I've cooked over half the recipes in this cookbook, and would say so far only 2–3 have been sub-par, but even so they weren't bad/awful. The other 65+ I've cooked have been a HIT. Every time my boyfriend loves a dish, he'll turn to me and ask if it's a Molly Yeh one, and 9 times out of 10 it comes from this book.

While some recipes are intimidating and seem like they may require more work, there are some great easy ones tucked away, often easily skipped or missed. For other more complex ones, what always surprises me is that they're actually not that hard at all! However, if you're just buying this book, I love these to start:
-Chicken Paprikash
-Shakshuka Couscous
-Spaghetti and My Ex-Boyfriend's Meatless Balls
-The Token Green Salad
-Hummus
-Tomato and Squash Soup
-No-Knead Garlic Bread
-Brown Sugar Cookies
-Tahini Blondie Ice Cream Sandwiches

I love also how Molly Yeh has such a distinct voice. It feels like a friend talking to you and teaching you how to cook, so that I love to read from it as much as I love to cook from it.

If the "language" the other reviewer mentions bothers you, I encourage you to get a sense of humor and lighten up. Molly hardly uses it, and when she does it is so light-hearted, fun, and such a welcome authentic voice in a world where cookbook writing can be stuffy and pretentious.

I've bought this book for many friends, and recommend you do too!
