CROSS RIVER STATE PLEA FOR MORE FUNDING ESSENTIAL FOR EAST-WEST ROAD SUCCESS.

In a recent meeting at the Dan Archibong Lodge in Calabar, The State Governor, Sen, Bassey Otu expressed his appreciation for the Senate's efforts in completing the East-West Road and called for increased funding for Cross River State. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure maintenance and highlighted the necessity of modifying the road's drawings to avoid traffic congestion, similar to challenges faced in other major cities.
The governor also drew attention to the state's deteriorating Calabar-Ogoja Expressway and stressed the need for infrastructural repairs and upgrades.
Senator Otu further noted the impact of the Green Tree Treaty on the state and urged the Senate Ad-hoc Committee, led by Senator Abdul Ningi, to present the state's case to the Senate for additional support.
In response, Sen. Ningi expressed concerns about the East-West Road's long-standing neglect, despite being a significant economic hub. He emphasized the lack of coordination among government agencies responsible for the road's maintenance and pledged to hold a public hearing to investigate the road's progress, contractors, and funding allocation.
Additionally, he highlighted the dire condition of the Calabar-Itu Highway and called for urgent action to address these infrastructure challenges.
Senator Ningi commended Governor Otu's leadership and encouraged Cross Riverians to support him in his endeavors.
The team, which includes Senator Ikra Bilbis, the committee clerk Foluke Ogunbayo, and Engr. Clement Ogbuagu from the Federal Ministry of Works, anongst others will continue to address these pressing infrastructure issues.
