Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have completed a major four-player trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2027 auction, bringing England all-rounder Liam Livingstone to Chennai. The blockbuster deal also includes Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, while Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed and Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis will move to Hyderabad.

The trade was officially confirmed on November 5, 2026, marking an important development in both franchises' preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. With the IPL 2027 mini-auction approaching, CSK and SRH have addressed different squad requirements through this player exchange.

CSK Acquire Liam Livingstone For INR 6 Crore

The biggest highlight of the CSK-SRH four-player trade is the arrival of Liam Livingstone. The England international will join Chennai Super Kings for INR 6 crore, significantly lower than the INR 13 crore that Sunrisers Hyderabad originally paid to acquire him.

Livingstone is widely recognised for his explosive batting and ability to clear boundaries against both pace and spin. His versatility also makes him a valuable bowling option, as he can contribute with both leg-spin and off-spin.

His addition could provide CSK with more power in the middle order, an area where the franchise will be looking for consistent match-winning contributions in IPL 2027.

Livingstone's experience in international cricket and franchise T20 competitions could also help Chennai build a more flexible batting combination.

Jack Edwards Also Joins Chennai Super Kings

Alongside Livingstone, Australian seam-bowling all-rounder Jack Edwards will also join CSK as part of the deal.

Edwards will move to Chennai at his existing contract value of INR 3 crore. The 26-year-old was signed by SRH ahead of IPL 2026 but could not participate in the tournament after suffering a foot injury.

Since then, Edwards has made his international debut for Australia in both ODI and T20I cricket. His ability to contribute with the bat and ball gives CSK another overseas all-round option.

The franchise will hope that Edwards can deliver consistent performances and strengthen its overall squad depth.

Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis Move To SRH

In exchange for Livingstone and Edwards, Sunrisers Hyderabad have acquired two fast bowlers from Chennai Super Kings.

Indian left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed will return to SRH, having previously represented the franchise between 2018 and 2021. He joins Hyderabad at his existing price of INR 4.8 crore.

Khaleel enjoyed an impressive IPL 2025 campaign, taking 15 wickets in 14 matches for CSK. However, a right quadriceps injury restricted his participation to five matches during the 2026 season.

Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis will join SRH for INR 2 crore. Known for his variations and death-over bowling abilities, Ellis could become an important addition to Hyderabad's pace attack.

How Will This Trade Impact CSK In IPL 2027?

The arrival of Livingstone and Edwards gives Chennai Super Kings additional all-round options and greater flexibility in team selection.

Livingstone's power-hitting could strengthen the middle order, while Edwards offers another seam-bowling option. Meanwhile, SRH have addressed their bowling requirements by bringing in two experienced fast bowlers.

Both franchises have made strategic moves ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction, scheduled for December 16 in Goa.

Final Thoughts

The CSK-SRH four-player trade is one of the biggest squad developments ahead of IPL 2027. Liam Livingstone's arrival could provide Chennai with the explosive middle-order batting they need, while Jack Edwards adds further depth.

For SRH, Khaleel Ahmed's return and Nathan Ellis' addition strengthen their pace-bowling resources. Both teams will now look to make the most of these changes as they prepare for the next IPL season.
