LGSC COMMENCES STATEWIDE TOUR OF COUNCILS, VISITS OBUDU, OBANLIKU AND BEKWARRA WITH RENEWED VIGOR

... As Commission Chairman, Barr. Eyo Nsa Tasks LG Staff on Productivity
In a bid to ensure that the local government system runs within the current innovations being initiated by His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, the People First governor, the Local Government Service Commission has embarked on a statewide familiarization tour of all councils across the 18 LGAs of the State.
Leading Members of the Commission, the Chairman Hon. Barr. Eyo Nsa Ekpo, expressed deep concerns over dwindling service delivery in the third tier of government occasioned by poor attitude to work, truancy and absenteeism.
Upon arrival, the team was received by the Heads of Local Government Administration, HOLGAS, DGSAs and other principal staff of the councils. They welcomed and them and performed immediate briefing, while presenting their challenges.
Addressing councils staff, Barr. Eyo, disclosed that the newly appointed commission which is saddled with the onerous responsibility of correcting injustices arising from the recently conducted recruitment exercise, has already hit the ground running. He described the last recruitment exercise as a total embarrassment.
He further emphasized the need for productivity and efficiency in the service, adding that the hallmark of civil servants are employed to serve the interest of the public.
Receiving the team in their respective councils, the Executive Chairmen congratulated the newly inaugurated Commission Chairman and Members for their "well-deserved" appointments.
Executive Chairman of Obudu, Hon. Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, commended the governor who carefully selected "best hands" to pilot the affairs of the commission at this critical juncture.
He also raised concerns over the absence of junior staff namely drivers, cleaners, clerical officers etc.
Also joining his counterparts, the Executive Chairman of Obanliku, Hon. Chief Dr Sunny Ayang, expressed worry over the non availability of drivers in the council, which has greatly effected smooth operation. He noted also that the junior staff cadre is already near extinction. He further requested that the responsibility of recruiting such staff between the levels of 1-6, lies within the LGAs.
Other issues raised by staff centered on payroll shortfalls, haphazard payments, staff welfare, promotions and implementation.
While attending to questions on the above subject matter, the Chairman and Director of Administration made far reaching clarifications.
Presenting the vote of thanks, Commissioners 2,3 and 5 thanked staff and the leadership of the LGAs for the cooperation, support and warm reception.
Both the LGAs and commission further pledged collaboration to ensure lasting change in the local government system.
The commissioners comprised of the following;
Dr. Ekeng Effiong Edet – Commissioner I
Dr. Emmanuel Itakui Ntuyan – Commissioner II
Barr. Dr. Ondale Akor – Commissioner III
Hon. Obia Lawrence Bassey – Commissioner IV
Hon. Rita Ayim – Commissioner V
Hon. John Olom Otu – Commissioner VI,
Others in the entourage include;
