Widespread outrage and protests have rocked communities in Oyo State following the abduction of teachers and students in Ogbomoso, with residents demanding immediate government action and stronger security measures.

The incident has triggered renewed calls for protection of schools and rural communities, as families of the victims wait anxiously for updates. Peaceful demonstrators across affected areas are insisting that authorities move beyond statements and deliver concrete security reforms.

Reported Demands from Abductors

According to emerging reports, the abductors of the Ogbomoso teachers and students have issued a series of conditions as part of negotiations for their release.

The suspected kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦1 billion, which they insist should be paid into an account in the Republic of Benin.

In addition to the ransom, the group is also allegedly demanding the release of some bandits currently being held in Agodi and Abolongo correctional facilities, as well as the provision of two Hilux vehicles.

Further reports claim the abductors have called for amendments to certain Oyo State laws, which they claim should be reviewed in a way that aligns with their interests.

Authorities Yet to Confirm Demands

Security agencies and government authorities are yet to officially confirm the reported demands. However, efforts to secure the safe release of the victims are understood to be continuing.

Officials have urged calm and warned against speculation, noting that ongoing operations are sensitive. Families of the victims have appealed to both state and federal authorities to prioritize the safe return of their loved ones.

Communities Demand Action

The development comes amid ongoing tension across Oyo State, with civic groups, parents, and youth organizations mobilizing for increased security presence in schools and highways.

“The safety of our children is not negotiable,” a community leader said during a protest in Ogbomoso on Wednesday. “We need 24/7 patrols, intelligence-driven policing, and real accountability.”

As of press time, no official statement has been released regarding the status of negotiations or rescue operations.
