In a significant step toward empowering women in leadership roles, female Commissioners from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones gathered in Lagos for the “UN Women Leadership and Advocacy Training for Women in Executive Positions”. Tagged “Strengthening Voices and Building Impact”.the event provided an opportunity for women leaders to enhance their skills and amplify their impact in governance, with particular focus on Women Inclusion in politics and governance.

Representing the South-South Geopolitical Zone, the Cross River State Female Commissioners made a strong presence with their diverse expertise and commitment to social change. The delegation included: 1. Hon. Dcns Agnes Atsu, Commissioner for Sports Development 2. Hon. Edema Irom, Commissioner for Women Affairs (Team Lead and Coordinator (Cross River Contingent) 3. Hon. Dr. Abigail Duke, Commissioner for Commerce 4. Dr. Beatrice Igwe, Commissioner for Housing

5. Bishop Margaret Ene-Ita, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Community Development 6. Etieka Lawrencia Ita, Commissioner for Establishment and Training 7. Dr. Helen Egodo, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs At the training, these female leaders engaged in discussions, training sessions, and advocacy strategies aimed at enhancing their roles in the development of their respective communities and the nation.

Hon. Agnes Atsu, the Commissioner for Sports Development, expressed her gratitude to the United Nations for organizing the impactful training, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Cross River, Hon Edema Irom for making Sure Cross River was nominated to represent the Zone. She commended the initiative, noting that it was an excellent platform to bring women together for capacity building.
