She provides a useful comparison of the good, the bad, and the unproductive use of teachers' time and talent. Included are the challenges faced by teachers between doing what they have been called to do and what administrators and politicians think they should do. She reveals many of the reasons why today's graduates don't know much about how the US grew and expanded or the skills required to become thoughtful productive adults.
