Review: I needed a manual for my old Honda Shadow Sabre as most motorcycle repair shops today (in my experience) work on one of two types of bikes-either Harleys or crotch rockets. This manual has enabled me to reclaim some dignity as a man-I don't have to tow my girl to a shop full of disinterested and questionable mechanics who may or may not do the job correctly (seriously, I've been scammed before), and I don't have to rely on a dealership, either.
My clutch cable recently snapped, I took it to a shop where they claimed to fix the issue by replacing it with a new one and then they charged me $80...3 weeks later, the cable snapped again. Frustrated, I ordered a cable from Honda online, ordered this manual, and found out they didn't replace the cable at all. It was $20 for the cable and an hour or so of work. Plus, there was that combination of "man, I did that!" and "look at the money I saved"! The book tells you how to do EVERYTHING-from troubleshooting to routine maintenance to complex engine work-so that's great. It's easy to navigate and understand (for the most part), and there are plenty of exploded image diagrams and pictures, but...
The only color picture is the one on the cover-which can make certain things hard to make out-and the colored wire diagrams in the back couldn't be more confusing to figure out, lol. But these minor issues (and the fact that it took a week for it to be delivered) aren't enough to bring down my 5 star rating, though. A must buy if you've got a VT1100 manufactured between '95-'07!

Review: I wanted to buy a repair manual for my 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit VT1100C. Quickly discovered that there aren't too many choices. The Clymer manual has a good amount of information for routine maintenance, adjustments, troubleshooting and repair. Many of the engine repairs are too complex and involved for the average person who doesn't have the proper tools or level of experience. But I didn't buy the manual to do major engine repair... I just wanted a good manual to provide me with the big picture look at my bike with enough information that I could do my own adjustments and routine maintenance.

The photos and schematic drawings are good and plentiful. The colored wiring diagram could come in very handy one day as well.

If you don't have any sort of manual for your bike, this is a good start and may be all you need. The only other choices I'm aware of are the Honda Service Manual 1997-2007 and the Haynes Repair Manual for 1985 thru 2007 which gets some complaints about being inaccurate for some things so I just went with the Clymer. Happy so far.

Review: I got this manual to work on my 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit. It works for what I needed, which was to repair my front disc brake. Rebuilt the caliper and replaced the pads myself, which saved me the $200-ish the local shop wanted and took about 4 hours (including the time it took to find where my son had left my sockets) to do the job. I am retired, so I could take my time, as it was raining any way. :).
I've used both these since about 1964 and the brand starting with H. The Clymer is by far the better book, IMHO. If you do any work on your own bike, this manual is a very good aid and will save you a lot of money.

Review: Thorough, comprehensive instructions. Photographs could be better, and color would help. Detailed photographs of a small specific part are less useful if you cannot find the exact location on the bike to which the photo refers.

Review: As far as what you need to be able to do 80% of any work on your bike. I am impressed with the knowledge and overall set up of these manuals. Coming from someone who has used various service manuals as a mechanic in multi-line dealerships and powersports.
This is far more than your average backyard mechanic should be allowed to do. But, if you have the mechanical know how then you should be okay. Good manual overall, and enjoying it so far.

Review: Clymer outlines most everything needed to get your vehicle moving again. I'm limited in my auto knowledge, mostly as a product of being raised in NYC and not having the need for an auto until I was 26, but this manual got me through my RR issues with my bike (I tested a lot of wires, switches, and relays as well). Needless to say, the only thing that prevents me from giving this 5 stars is the indexing, which at times makes it difficult for me to then locate the section I need to read.

Review: Only problems I have with the manual is its organization and index and some of the content. It is not easy to find what you are looking for and you can get bounced around to get a complete picture of how to do one thing. Otherwise, the information content is nearly 100% complete. I expect a shop manual to tell me everything in detail. Actual rating is 3.5 stars.

Review: Only time will tell how helpful this manual will be but I was glad to get it. I was brand new and arrived promptly so that's all I expected. If it saves me $30 on maintenance I do not have to pay someone else to do then It was worth the cost.
