Review: I’m on day 6 of the Heal diet and my reflux is doing so much better. For that reason alone I would recommend this diet. I’m following the diet in conjunction with taking my ppi (pantoprozole)However, it’s obvious that no one tested or proofread the recipes. Almost every recipe I have tried has an error in the writing. For example, the Brown Rice and Tofu with Kale on pg. 125 leaves out the tofu. The Peanut Butter Cookies on pg. 190 calls for a cup of sugar (yet sugar is on the “eliminate” list). The cookie recipe says it should take 30 minutes yet calls for a baking time of 6-8 minutes. I think it’s supposed to say 26-28 minutes as that is how long mine took to bake . The Creamy Herbed Dressing on pg. 200 calls for a time of 30 minutes to mix yogurt and herbs in a bowl. And all of the recipes that use leeks call for using the green part (which is inedible and usually tossed in the compost pile).From now on I am planning to take the foods on the “Enjoy” list and make my own recipes.It’s a shame as I’m not sure how far to trust this book, but I’ll persevere another 3 weeks and then start reintroducing foods.

Review: I followed the steps for the initial phase for 6 days (not 3 like suggested) and I knocked out 70% of the laryngopharyngeal reflux cough I have been coping with for over a decade. I was so surprised to experience such a dramatic improvement in so little time just by changing what I ate. I had resigned myself to the condition and felt hopeless.It wasn't until recently that I discovered that my chronic cough was caused by silent reflux. The doctor offered prescriptions for proton pump inhibitors and post nasal drip. I declined those drugs and began searching (with moderate success) for lifestyle changes that would improve my symptoms. Then I found this book. I followed her advice religiously and I felt better after one week than I have in years (and years!) I'm now following the second phase of the plan and have high hopes that I'll completely wipe out all my symptoms without taking a single medication. This book was a life changer. I learned the body mechanics behind reflux (stuff I didn't find anywhere else!) and that helped me follow the plan better. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from GERD or LPR!

Review: This book is exactly what I was looking for!I read 3 books from the library prior to this and got information about the Reflux condition I was diagnosed with. This book didn't dumb it down, but explained it in a way that really made sense, why lifestyle changes mattered, and even went into more detail of the digestive system than some other books I read written by MD's. It is very practical and easy to read.I had been given a paper from my doctor on what not to eat, but was struggling with what to eat now, especially since the symptoms weren't improving and other digestive symptoms were starting. This book answered those questions perfectly!The format is simple, organized and uncluttered and provides plentiful guidance to help me know what is best to eat (and why some foods are not) while healing my esophagus.Other books I read offered food plans that we're unrealistic or had recipes I would never make, either because I don't have the time to devote to it or because I just don't cook meals like that.This book offers simple recipies people like me actually make in real life. But best of all, it has the guidance I was really looking for to eat well and heal my esophagus. I'm very grateful for this book.

Review: This book is great. Some good information and explanation that really opened my eyes to understanding reflux, and how our diet contributes to that and other health issues. I followed the plan closely and healed my reflux (and most of my GI issues)—and lost 25 lbs,—without ever taking an antacid or PPI. (I don’t know if this is typical, but it was good for my health all-around.) The majority of the book is an eating plan with recipes. You have to be dedicated to follow the guidelines (it’s not easy). But it’s completely worth it if it leads to better health, general wellness and a new perspective on what we put into our bodies. Food is medicine!
