Review: another book by other author of the same title exists. I had a hard time finding "A Nation of Immigrants"
on Amazon .com written by John F.Kennedy. He was the grandson of Irish Immigrants like me.

Great synopsis of how much the Irish love the U.S. and other immigrants. He gave The Irish credit for building/making the railroad ties/building bridges/doing the low pay jobs that current U>S> citizens
wouldn't do in the 1840's and after.
Irish people's priority was God,Jesus,Mary/St. Patrick/family/freedom
from Cromwell's /Esex's bullets/buring of Irish Catholic Churches/burning Irish schools/shootin Irish Catholic Priests in the head or back./
Cromwell/Essex burned 3 million dollars in U.S. money. They were trees thousand of years old.
Ireland is a country that's 10,000
old.The English crown is only 1,ooo years old. Our Irish ancestors knew what a crowned head did before England knew what a crown was. I had an English grandfather/an Anglican.Mom took me
for a visit to The Republic of Ireland where we, as U>S> citizens
wewr stranded by The Nazis'bombing of Europe.The English Crown rules
like Machavellie's "The Prince"
states.My Emglish grandfather made it clear to his many grown children and me he wouldn/t hesitate to use the "cat of nine tails" he kept hanging up. I was
3 years old.I could read,write and count great.My grandmother was a descendent of an Irish chief. My grandfather had an English name.All the Immigrants who came to theU.S. wanted to work without being beaten everyday.All of us Immigrant daughters were taught by our parents to respect other ethnic groups. Our parents/grandparents taught us to respect The U>S> and thank God for our freedoms.
Fortunately my dad worked for The US> Gov. I told my grandad if he
touched me with"The cat of 9tails"
I'd go to the U.S.EMBASSY.

Title: It's not life-changing, but it should be read

Review: It's a short read, and it probably won't change anybody's life, but it's as important now as it was back then. Prejudice against immigrants has been around since ancient tribes were first formed. This book just tries in a simple way to make clear that most immigrants come to America for the same reason our ancestors did: to make a better life for themselves and their families. Most of our ancestors were not only hard workers, they also took the jobs that no one else wanted. For my ancestors it was horrible conditions in New England mills. For others it was coal mines, railroads, food service, agriculture. Most immigrants achieved their goal: to give their kids a better life than they had. I, like most other Americans, have benefitted from their sacrifices and I'm very grateful for that.

Review: Given the immigration issues we face today, people are reluctant to allow those coming from foreign shores to enter our country. Such a pity though because many of these immigrants of yesteryear to improve the quality of life here in the USA. Perhaps we could do to limit the number of Immigrants coming here to allow those already here to fortify their life abd that if this country. I dare say many may disagree.

Title: Very Interesting, Illuminating, And Although Dated, Still Relevant

Review: This is a relatively short work authored by President Kennedy. The beginning of the work is a summary of immigration throughout our country's history. This is followed by the status of laws into the early 1960s and recommendations for changes.

Although there are specific differences about geography and the nations involved, there are general similarities about issues we discuss today. In that context I find this work both educational and provides fuel for reflection and contemplation today.

I purchased the audiobook and found it to be satisfactory but not excellent. There are mispronouncings and stumbles that would have seemed easily replaced considering this is a commercial product. Basically the audiobook sounded like me trying to read the book to you on a first try. It is comprehensible but not a work of commercial excellence. Thank You....

Title: Kennedy on immigration and our Identity as a Nation...

Review: This is the first review I have written of a book purchased on Amazon, and I have bought a many number of books. The reason I felt compelled to write is because, though some of his numbers are out of date, the themes, subject, and his pragmatic arguments are timeless. I found myself reading and smiling with disbelief with how relevant this whole book is and how beautifully entwined he mixes history with compassion and historical backing. When I read it I was impressed with how never ending and cyclical the immigration debate really is. The only thing that seems to change is what nationality or group is coming here and how people react to them. I highly recommend any and all people interested in this subject to read this book, which shouldn't take more than a few hours. I admire Kennedy a great deal and am grateful I bought and read this small treasure. While I was reading it I often found myself imagining and wishing he were across from me, coffee in hand, to discuss todays problems and his views on how to solve them.

Title: Still relevant after 54 years!

Review: This is a short book written and updated by John F. Kennedy in preparation for his proposal to comprehensively reform immigration in 1963. It contains two forwards, by Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Abraham H. Foxman, then national director of the Anti-Defamation League. It proposes that we live up to ideals. As Kennedy noted, inscribed at the Statue of Liberty is, "Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free". Although more than 50 years old, its amazingly pertinent. One can only dream of having a president like Kennedy (or many of our other past presidents of both parties for that matter) in view of the predicament we now find our selves in! Maybe someday...
