Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang Trek is a culturally loaded place in the Mustang region of northwest Nepal. Located at the border region with Tibet, there are centuries-old monasteries, Chhortens and mediaeval caves in Upper Mustang. Travellers or trekkers visit the Upper Mustang region, especially Lomanthang to explore the lives in the arid landscape and their way of living. A special restricted area trekking permit is necessary for the trek to Upper Mustang. Upper Mustang is known as mini Tibet and high Himalayan desert. Upper Mustang was the second kingdom of Nepal, which is known as a country behind the Himalayas.

Upper Mustang Trek begins from the tiny airstrip of Jomsom and goes through the Kali Gandaki valley. Even driving to Lomanthang is also possible. As a trekking trip, we lead you through the arid landscape and charming villages of the Tibetan Buddhists. Walking after the midday is quite tough in this windy valley. Besides cultural attractions, the brown hills, colourful flowers, panoramic mountain views (Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and others), caves and various other attractions make the trek to Upper Mustang spectacular. Lomanthang is the centre for travellers who love to see the religious pattern of the local people who believe in Tibetan Buddhism. This mediaeval town is surrounded by a long stone wall. In the caves of the locality, different hermits and Lamas are believed to have meditated. Tiji festival is one of the prime attractions of this place. A strange thing for outsiders is also the polyandry marriage system and sky burial in Upper Mustang. Returning back, you walk through the deepest Kali Gandaki gorge, where holy black stones (fossils) are found.
