Following his overthrow in the nation's first coup, Gabon's president appeals for assistance

After the coup attempt, the ousted president urged Gabonese civilians to "make noise."

After being placed under house arrest on Wednesday by members of his presidential guard during an ongoing coup attempt, Ali Bongo Ondimba, the deposed president of Gabon, has asked for assistance.

In a video sent to social media and verified by Al Jazeera, Bongo, who confirmed his arrest, urged people to "make noise" in response to the coup attempt. Although he claimed to be in the presidential palace, the film did not show his wife or children.

The leaders of the coup claimed that he had his family and doctors with him at home. Regarding his health, they withheld any information.
