Prithivi Narayan Shah was born in 1723 in Gorkha, a small kingdom situated in the western region of Nepal. He belonged to the Shah dynasty, which ruled the Gorkha kingdom for several centuries before he became the king.

Prithivi Narayan Shah was the third son of King Nara Bhupal Shah and he showed signs of intelligence and leadership from a young age. As a child, he was fascinated by the history of Nepal and he spent a lot of time reading ancient texts and learning about the accomplishments of his ancestors.

The Gorkha kingdom was small and surrounded by larger kingdoms like the Malla dynasty, which ruled over the Kathmandu Valley. Prithivi Narayan Shah realized that the only way to protect his kingdom from external threats was to expand its territory.

At the young age of 20, Prithivi Narayan Shah took the throne of Gorkha after the sudden death of his father and older brother. He was determined to fulfill his dream of expanding the kingdom and protecting it from external threats.

Prithivi Narayan Shah immediately launched a campaign to conquer neighboring kingdoms and expand his own territory. He was a brilliant military strategist and gradually gained control over several kingdoms in the western region of Nepal.

In 1769, he conquered the Kathmandu Valley, which was the heart of the Malla dynasty and a major center of political power in Nepal. This victory marked the unification of Nepal under the Shah dynasty, and Prithivi Narayan Shah became the first king of a united Nepal.

Prithivi Narayan Shah is remembered as one of the greatest rulers in Nepal's history. His vision and determination to unify Nepal played a significant role in shaping the country's future. He is credited with laying the foundation for Nepal's political, social and economic development and his legacy continues to inspire generations of Nepalese people.
