Review: What an amazing story. Kevin has an amazing will. His mania was truly life threatening. He has so many manic episodes for a lifetime. I'm bipolar and I have never had an euphoric manic episode. My episodes are dysphoric. I'm still getting over the one I had a year ago. One thing I found interesting, was that Kevin drinks alcohol. That's a no no for bipolars. Also his friends and family drink in front of him. What's up with that? Especially with his family. I was surprised by their disconnect. The book frequently mentions
the wine, the champagne that is around him. I would suspect that is one of his triggers. Also the time zones he traversed. That can be another trigger. It doesn't say in the book whether he recognized those are potential triggers. I hope he does and is very careful. The author captured what Kevin, friends and family experienced. She also includes a list of mental health resources. I am happy for that. I felt I knew Kevin by the end of the book and felt the pain he has endured. I'm grateful for The Kevin Show.

Review: This book starts with high concept that got me interested right off the bat. But that was just the beginning. Somehow The Kevin Show ends up as story that made me think and hit me in the heart all at the same time. It made me deeply consider what we value as a culture. And it made me want to know Kevin. It's an important book and an entertaining book. Highly recommended!

Review: Through intensive reporting, Mary Pilon has written a portrait of a gifted athlete who believes, episodically, that his life and the lives of those around him is a reality show. He is ill, knows it, and yet isn’t entirely sure which state of mind is preferable. The more troubling reality is Pilon’s sense that we are all living our own versions of Kevin Hall’s delusions, an epidemic of egomania brought to you courtesy of the internet. This book will hold your interest, and stay in your mind long after you put it down.

Review: This is a good book. Residents of San Francisco like me see mental health problems on every street corner, so it helps to get inside the head of someone dealing with similar issues, if only to empathize with others. In this case, the protagonist is incredibly lucky to have talent and supportive family members. I like the writing too, like the sentence from page 206 (“...his relationship to the water inverted...”) with a very clever verb in context.
