Why were cornflakes invented

Cornflakes were invented as a healthy, ready-to-eat breakfast cereal option. They were created by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg in the late 19th century.

Dr. Kellogg was a physician and health advocate who ran a sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan. He believed that a simple, bland diet would promote good health and prevent certain diseases. As part of this philosophy, he created a recipe for a cereal made from corn, which he called "granose." However, the cereal was difficult to digest and did not become popular.

Several years later, Will Keith Kellogg, who worked with his brother at the sanitarium, accidentally left some cooked cornmeal out overnight, and it became stale. Rather than waste it, he rolled the stale cornmeal out into thin flakes, and toasted them. The resulting flakes were crisp and tasty, and Will Keith Kellogg saw the potential for a new breakfast cereal.

He refined the recipe, added some sugar for sweetness, and began selling the cereal as "Kellogg's Corn Flakes" in 1906. The cereal was an instant success, and has since become a breakfast staple in many parts of the world.
