Pakistan Prime Minister PML-N leader in the Senate Khursheed Shahbaz Khan said today that the military would hold elections to elect his party's next prime minister and he had no issue with it as long as it was done legally, according to Dawn newspaper

"The government of the country will announce elections soon. We believe in democracy. You have seen the Supreme Court and all judges are saying there must be transparency before holding an election. They are not against the process of electing a new Pakistani head of state. If they were, Pakistan would have been plunged into anarchy," he told journalists after addressing a press conference at the National Assembly here, Monday.

Khan added that he would like to see all aspects of the country's politics be transparent so he could make himself visible to people through all means of mass media. He said the whole nation would get involved in this and the opposition parties would participate also in the voting process. The premier also said that if anyone wanted to do anything illegal, then the law would protect him in any way.

He further stressed that if the incumbent party does not fulfill its promises, then no one would vote for them in their upcoming polls. "If you don't show your face during the entire exercise, the country wouldn't honour you in any way."

He said that it was shameful when the former regime used its agencies as proxies to cover up its misdeeds, adding that his party would fight the incumbent government in court. The premier said his party leaders had already talked about how to take revenge on his predecessor Musharraf and his family as well who used their official positions to extort money from the public for votes.

He thanked the government for providing free education to children and asked people to provide more financial help to ensure that every child gets a good education. At the same time, he directed the federal ministers to work hard to reduce poverty among masses.

Sharing the details of a meeting held yesterday, he said the ruling coalition was confident in bringing down the present government as long as there was unity among parties. He said his party would complete its six year term so that the government would end. “Our members are working hard for getting rid of anti-people policies.”

In order to bring down the present government, he said those who want to contest constituencies should remove themselves from assemblies first. “We can’t allow our youths to lose faith in us because we are facing serious issues with the previous rulers”.

He vowed to work for the development of the common man and added that he will continue to work for peace and prosperity of the country. He also urged the PTI leadership that the opposition was only fighting politics at the expense of national interests and asked them to go back home.

Meanwhile, the political drama took another twist after the newly elected Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri issued a notice asking party leader in Lok Sabha Shehbaz Sharif, to appear in front of the House on July 21. In response, the chief whip of PTI Raja Pervez Ashraf has threatened to resign from Parliament.

The announcement comes amid ongoing stalemate in the Punjab Assembly. Sources told Geo News over the weekend that senior PTI leaders were threatening to step down from Punjab assembly. Senior member PTI leader Rana Sanaullah too issued similar warning to his fellow party member Asad Umar. Recently, Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Saeed Zulfiqar Chaudhry too issued a verbal threat to parliamentarians.

While urging his colleagues to stay united, he tweeted, "We are talking about the possibility of defections if we break the resolve. Therefore, I appeal to my party members I am afraid of losing the confidence of all the MPs on the Punjab team. Don't hesitate in speaking out when needed. I assure the nation that you won't be separated from me in Parliament."
