BRUSSELS AIRLINES CONTINUES ITS BELGIAN ICONS SERIES

Brussels Airlines debuted its first Belgian Icon six years ago with a single hand-painted aircraft sporting a previously unseen livery. In collaboration with Moulinsart, the airline developed Rackham, an aircraft livery honouring the well-known Belgian cartoon character Tintin that features a 37-meter-long black shark based on the original Hergé painting. The airline aspires to serve as an ambassador for its nation in a variety of ways, including the Belgian Icon series. The airline will keep promoting Belgium as the best country in the world. As the time for repainting Rackham, which continues to be one of the most photographed aircraft in the world, has come to an end, Moulinsart and Brussels Airlines have decided to continue working together and restore the painting of the aircraft to its original condition. This means that Rackham will remain in the airline's fleet for at least another five years. The cabin of the aircraft will be refurbished with more Hergé-drawn Tintin graphics but the exterior painting will remain mostly same. Brussels Airlines has confirmed that it will continue to serve as Belgium's ambassador by renewing its first Belgian Icon. Additionally, the airline strives to have at least five Belgian Icons in its fleet at all times.

The maintenance division of Brussels Airlines will follow up on the repainting of Rackham's fuselage along with Moulinsart, who modified the original blueprints to fit the peculiar curves of an Airbus A320. In June 2021, the restoration of the artwork and interior modifications are anticipated to be completed.

Following Rackham in 2015, the airline introduced two additional unique liveries in 2016: Magritte and Trident, honouring Belgium's national soccer team, the Red Devils. Amare, an homage to the Tomorrowland music festival, joined the fleet the following year. Aerosmurf and Bruegel then joined in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

While Rackham will be returned to its original condition, OO-SNC, the aircraft that flew for five years with the Magritte livery, is being converted into an aircraft sporting the Star Alliance emblem and colours, of which Brussels Airlines has been a member since December 2009. After 8,371,324 kilometres and 6,403 flights, Brussels Airlines bids Magritte farewell. 866,331 passengers have had the opportunity to fly the stunning aircraft decorated with the recognisable clouds and birds from three of René Magritte's paintings over the previous five years.

On the other hand, Trident continues to be devoted to soccer, one of the most popular sports in Belgium. The well-liked livery will get an upgraded interior in addition to a partial exterior paint job. The OO-SNA aircraft, which began flying on May 25, 2021, will carry inside portraits of both the Red Devils and the Red Flames until it is retired from the Brussels Airlines fleet in November 2022.

Amare, a Brussels Airlines aircraft, will continue to fly with its livery until 2023 in recognition of Tomorrowland, the world's best music festival. The Smurfs, a beloved group of little, blue figures in Belgium, are the subject of the fifth Belgian Icon Aerosmurf, whose illustrations will be shown until 2024. The airline's newest special livery, honouring Flemish Master Pieter Bruegel the Elder, one of the greatest painters of the sixteenth century, will stay in the fleet until 2024. These final three icons may undergo alterations or be replaced at some point, but the airline says it will keep using the Belgian Icon series moving forward.
