MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE PUBLIC/PRIVATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMES

JANUARY – DECEMBER, 2024

The re-structured and upgraded Management Development Institute, Calabar has the mandate to develop capacity in both the Public and Private Sectors of the economy. This is to enhance effective and efficient service delivery in any Organization.Consequently, and in fulfillment of the said mandate, the under-listed career development courses have been scheduled to take effect from January, 2024:

EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE:

This 12 (Twelve)- month certificate course is designed for Secretarial Staff, Chief Typists and qualified Data Processors who wish to transfer to the executive cadre. At the end of the course, participants will be to work effectively in the Administrative Department of their MDAs and/or Organization.

Qualifications

• Five passes including English Language in GCE/SSCE (O/L) or its equivalent.

• Applicants should be Secretaries, Chief Typists or Data Processors on salary GL.09 with at least Five years cognate experience.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (ADMINISTRATION)

This 12 (Twelve) months certificate course is organized for Senior Clerical Officers (Administration).

Qualification

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

 

 

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (ACCOUNTS)

This 12 (Twelve) months certificate course is organized for Senior Clerical Officers (Accounts).

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (AUDIT)

This 12 (Twelve) months certificate course is organized for Senior Clerical Officers (Audit).

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

 

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (SECURITY IN GOVERNMENT)

This 12 (Twelve) months certificate course is organized for Senior Security Officers (Security in Government).

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (ICT)

This 12 (Twelve) months certificate course is organized for Senior Computer Operators (ICT).

Qualifications

Applicants must:

 

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE OFFICERS’ COURSE (REVENUE)

This 12 (Twelve) months Assistant Executive Officer (Revenue) programme is organized for officers who are presently performing revenue duties.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level and must be on G/L 04 and above.

• Holders of FSLC with good tract records/work experience are also eligible to apply.

ASSISTANT STORE OFFICERS’ COURSE

This 12 (Twelve) months course is designed for Senior Store-Keepers who have the desire to improve their skills and knowledge in store-keeping.

 

 

Qualification

Applicants must:

• Possess 5 passes in GCE or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics.

• Pass the Category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level.

• Be on G/L 04 and above or its equivalent.

CLERICAL SKILLS COURSE

The 12 (Twelve)- month programme is organized for Head Messengers on salary Grade Level 04 and Officers of Allied Grades who wish to acquire skills in Office Practice and Accounting that will enable them transfer to the Clerical Cadre.

ADVANCED SECRETARIAL STUDIES COURSE

The 12 (Twelve)- month Advanced Secretarial Studies course is organized for qualified Confidential Secretary III who have served on the post for at least one year after training.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess five passes including credit in English Language in GCE O/L or its equivalent.

 

• Possess 100/50 w.p.m in Shorthand and Typewritting and Word Processing.

ORDINARY/INTERMEDIATE SECRETARIAL STUDIES COURCE

This course is an eighteen (18)- month programme organized for candidates who are interested in Secretarial Studies.

Qualification

Applicants must:

• Possess GCE O/L or its equivalent in at least four subjects including English Language at credit level, or possess five subjects including English Language, passed at credit level in not more than two sitting.

• Possess a certificate in Secretarial Studies (Ordinary) at 80/35 w.p.m.

12 MONTH CONVERSION PROGRAMME

The 12 (Twelve)- months conversion of B.Sc Social Sciences, B.A Arts to B.Ed Education Programme is organized for qualified graduates without educational background in affiliation with University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) and have spent a minimum of one year as civil/public servant.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Must be holder of B.Sc, B.A and HND from a recognized Higher Institution

• Possess five passes including credit in English Language in GCE O/L or its equivalent.

TYPIST GRADE I/WORD PROCESSING COURSE

The 12 (Twelve) months course is organized for qualified Typists Grade II who have obtained 35 w.p.m speed in Typewriting from any recognized Institution. At the end of the course, participants should acquire 50 w.p.m in Typewriting and have experience in Word Processing.

TYPING GRADE II COURSE

This is a 12 (twelve) months course organized for qualified persons who have the desire to acquire 35 w.p.m in Typewriting including Word Processing.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess Class JSS Certificate or attempted GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent with passes in at least 3 subjects or Elementary Typewriting and wish to acquire the speed of 25 w.p.m including Word Processing.

• Possess FLSC or JSS Certificate.

TYPIST GRADE III COURSE

This 12 (twelve) months certificate course is organized for beginners who are interested in Typewriting and wish to acquire the speed of 25 w.p.m including Word Processing.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must:

• Possess FSLC or JSS Certificate.

ORDINARY CERTIFICATE IN CULTURAL STUDIES

This is a 12 (Twelve) month’s certificate course is organized for the following Cultural Workers:

Cultural Assistants

Assistants Cultural Officers

Cultural Attendants

Craftsmen/Women

Qualifications

Candidates must:

Possess FSLC and JSS

INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE IN CULTURAL STUDIES

This 12 (12 (Twelve) month’s certificate course is organized for the following Cultural Workers:

Cultural Assistants

Assistant Cultural Officers

Cultural Attendants

All Craftsmen/Women

Qualification

Candidates must:

• Possess FSLC, JSS, Certificate

ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN CULTURAL STUDIES

This is a three (3) - month course organized for Officers who have passed through MDI in various courses/programmes but still need to retain their profession as Cultural Attendants and all Craftsmen/Women.

Qualification

Applicants must:

• Possess FSLC, JSSC, GCE/SSCE

• Possess the category ‘C’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination

• Possess MDI Certificate in any of the AEO (Accounts, Administration, Revenue), Assistant Store Officers’ (ASO) Courses/Programmes

CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN PRINTING STAGE III

This is a 12 (Twelve) months course organized for Press Assistant GL. 02 and above.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess FSLC, JSS, GCE/SSCE/NECO Certificate.

• Pass the Category ‘A’ or ‘B’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level.

CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN PRINTING STAGE II

This is a 12 (Twelve) months certificate course organized for Printing Assistant Grade II, GL. 04 to Chief Printing Assistant GL. 07.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess FSLC, JSS, GCE/SSCE/NECO Certificate

• Pass the Category ‘A’ or ‘B’ Confirmation/Promotion Examination (CONPRO) at promotion level.

CERFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN PRINTING STAGE I

This is a 12 (Twelve) months certificate course organized for Higher Superintendent of Press GL. 08 and above.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Possess Certificate of Proficiency in Printing Stage II or a full Technological Certificate of the City and Guild London Institute in Photo/Lithography or any other related subject from a recognized Institution OR

• Ordinary National Diploma in Photo/Lithography or any other related subject from a recognized Institution.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

• Applicants should obtain application forms at the Insititute on payment of a non refundable fee of N2,000.00 (One Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) only.

• The completed form must be countersigned by the applicant’s Head of Department confirming the nomination.

• Forms not duly authenticated will be rejected.

By this circular, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Chief Executive Officers of Private Organizations, including Chairmen of Local Government Councils are please requested to nominate qualified staff for the programmes.
