Let's look at the isrealites when they were in the wilderness, but first let's look at Malachi 2:1-2

And now oh priest, this command is for you. If you will not listen, if you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name, says the lord of host, then I will send a curse upon you and I will curse your blessings indeed I have already cursed because you did not lay it to heart.

Now you see what God says if you do not lay it to heart. Now, God is trying to say we should have an heart that is always thankful for everything and in other words having an attitude of gratitude.

Now let's look at what complaining can result into.

Numbers 12:1, 4-5, 9

Miriam and Aaron spoken against Moses (we see here that backbiting can be caused by lack of attitude of gratitude)...and suddenly the lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam "come out, you three to the tent of meeting." And the three of them came out and the lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the tent, and calledd Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forward..

And the anger of the lord was kindled against them. (we see here that the the attitude displayed by Aaron and Miriam made the lord angry).

Let's see what happened in the wilderness with the isrealites in Numbers 11:1

And the people complained in the hearing of the lord about their misfortune and when the lord heard it his anger was kindled and the fire of the lord burnt among them, and consumed some of outlaying part of the the camp.
