Bend Studio, the Oregon-based developer renowned for the post-apocalyptic zombie shooter Days Gone, has hinted at being deeply engrossed in the development of its new intellectual property (IP). Although the studio did not disclose specific details about the upcoming game, expected to launch on the PlayStation 5, the statement suggests significant progress in the project.
Having been part of Sony Interactive Entertainment since 2000, Bend Studio initially focused on delivering shooters and adventure titles for Sony's handheld systems. The studio gained attention with the release of Days Gone for the PS4 in 2019. Despite the commercial success of the first game, Sony rejected a sequel proposal, leading Bend Studio to concentrate on a new IP that would expand on Days Gone's open-world mechanics. After a period of silence about their progress, Bend Studio responded to a user on Twitter seeking an update on their current project, stating, "We cooking." The developer previously announced that its upcoming game would be an open-world multiplayer experience, marking a departure from its previous titles. Kevin McAllister, the studio's community manager, asserted last May that the current project would be the best game developed by Bend Studio.

A petition launched in 2021 urging Sony to approve a Days Gone sequel has gathered around 210,000 signatures, indicating substantial demand for such a venture. Bend Studio is well-positioned to capitalize on the anticipation surrounding its new game, considering the existing library of great titles that could complement a potential Days Gone sequel or prequel.
