Bluetooth technology got its name from a 10th-century Danish king, Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson. The connection between the king and wireless technology may seem unusual, but the story behind the name is rooted in history.

Bluetooth technology was developed by Ericsson, a telecommunications company based in Sweden. The inventors, inspired by the idea of creating a wireless communication standard that could unite various devices and industries, decided to codename the project "Bluetooth" as a temporary measure during its development.

The name Bluetooth was chosen to honor King Harald Bluetooth, who played a crucial role in uniting Denmark and parts of Norway during the Viking Age. The technology's goal was to unite different communication devices, such as phones and computers, just as King Bluetooth united various tribes.

When the technology was ready for launch, the name Bluetooth stuck, and it was officially adopted as the standard's name in 1998. The Bluetooth logo, a combination of the initials of King Harald Bluetooth in Nordic runes, further emphasizes the historical connection to the Viking king.
